If tariffs don’t work, why does it make sense to spend $2B to move the Chief’s stadium across a river?

@grok @DavidSHolz @grok What size battery do they need to operate radio and intra-satellite cluster communication (with laser right?) compare that to the size of the solar output when it’s ‘on’.

**Around 60%.** Starlink satellites in LEO (~500–550 km) spend roughly 60% of each orbit in sunlight on average (the rest is Earth eclipse). Their solar arrays are oriented to track the Sun when illuminated, so they produce near-peak power during that time and rely on batteries for the eclipse periods. This gives them a far higher effective capacity factor than ground-based solar (typically 20–25% in good locations). No official SpaceX figure is public, but orbital mechanics and industry estimates consistently land in the 55–65% range.

SpaceX put 10 megawatts of solar power in space across 3000 gen1 Starlink satellites, then they put 100 megawatts in space with 7000 gen2. soon, they're doing 1000 megawatts with gen3. SpaceX is basically 10xing space solar every few years!

A Mom in Tulsa called 3 health systems last week asking the price of her son's tonsillectomy. Health system A: "We cannot quote you a price." Health system B: "Pricing depends on your insurance." Health system C: "Our financial counselor will reach out after the procedure." No other industry in America gets to operate this way. Imagine ordering at a restaurant and getting the bill six weeks after dinner.

@BriannaWu Wouldn’t gender affirming care be giving a young man like that testosterone replacement to get him to higher levels? That’s affirming the actual biological gender.

One reason I feel confident science will eventually find a biological basis for transsexuality is most of us have this same gawky, thin androgynous look before we transition. There’s gotta be a reason testosterone bounces off us. And it’s gotta be related to why testosterone breaks our brains.

Dads... I need your advice. As a young dad myself, I’m genuinely worried about my son growing up addicted to screens, phones, games, etc. It feels like EVERYTHING is designed to grab their attention these days. So I want to ask: - How do you actually manage screen time in your house? - What’s worked for you? - What’s failed? Would appreciate real answers from people who’ve been there 🤝

I see these neighborhoods being built in Texas and I’m trying to figure out who in their right mind would buy a mansion with zero lot lines. Like, you could do a handshake through your kitchen window. Insane! Please make it make sense.

Today I learned that the bank reserve ratio, you know the ratio that says how much in deposits banks are supposed to hold and keep back to keep stability That ratio which historically has been 9-10% since the 1929 crash, has been 0% since March 2020. They sent the ratio to zero in 2020 and never sent it back. 😂

I don't think people appreciate how little monetary policy has to do with inflation right now. And those that believe it's all about monetary policy do not appreciate how insane fiscal policy has been the last 5 years.

.@nikitabier - could you explain how credit for video monetization works using a real world example? #1: 3:20pm @selinawangtv posts footage from the WH and is also reposted by @ABC within the same minute. #2: 3:23pm @MarioNawfal has already downloaded the clip and uploaded it as his own video with no link to Selina or ABC. Importantly, he did NOT use the repost video function which would have preserved credit to Selina. #3: All subsequent reposts of Mario's post credit the video to him, instead of Selina. My question is does Mario get any monetization credit for the video he stole or will credit from views in steps #2 and #3 revert to Selina since she uploaded the clip first?

If you live in LA and your neighborhood is covered in graffiti and the city is ignoring it, just spray paint “VOTE PRATT” over it, and Karen will have it painted over within 20 minutes.

@Atomicrod Agree with all your other points, but have you actually experienced dental quality correlating with price? It certainly might 'feel' like that but we need a better way to review dentists and track their quality of work - not just how much they charge out the door.

Worth remembering Cheaper is NOT equivalent to best value. I personally avoid cheap dentists, cheap tires, cheap brakes and cheap steak.

@thegenesisbl0ck Why do we have to accept attachment theory as true? How does it make more sense to believe that things that happen to you which you won’t even remember will have a unchangable and foundational impact on your whole life? Seems implausible to me, or at least empirically unprovable

8 weeks of maternity leave isn’t enough. Neither is 3 months, 6 months or 1 year. Attachment theory research shows that babies need their primary caregiver (most often mom) far longer than a few months, ideally for the first 3 years. Longer maternity leave leads to better mother-infant interactions which results in a more secure attachment at 24 months. Babies are so sensitive that even any mother-baby separation for more than a week (1 week!) under the age of 2 has been shown to predict higher child negativity at age 3 and higher aggression at both age 3 and age 5. You can never convince me that anything about women working corporate jobs is natural.

If someone walked into your home without your permission and gave birth in your living room, that wouldn’t obligate you to make that baby part of your family. You’d be crazy to agree to such an arrangement. The Fourteenth Amendment wasn’t written by crazy people.

I'm not gonna lie, the @Meta layoffs are some of the most dystopian I've ever seen. They got told to work from home, they were sent the emails at 4AM in the morning. Those who weren't impacted have software on their computer that tracks their every move, preparing AI to take their job as well. They're literally training the AI that will eliminate their position as well. Meanwhile, Meta is raking in RECORD PROFITS. I am a massive, unapologetic AI enthusiast. Yet, this is NOT the future I had in mind. I wish for Meta to crash and burn. This is not the way. Literally nobody benefits from this.
