@sreemoytalukdar By Aug 2028, U.S. will be 3 months from election and 5 months from a new POTUS.
This tariff will either never happen, or be reversed within 6 months.
Besides, the legal authority relied upon by Trump will be struck down by the Supreme Court well before that just like IEEPA.
English

@RajaKorman Equally vulnerable to challenge on the same grounds as IEEPA
English

The interesting thing is that the latest tariffs against Canada are under Section 338, a 1930s statute that most closely replicates the "Because I Said So" aspects of IEEPA, and had not been invoked since 1949.

@bernardtjoy I don’t think you can call an opinion (the words “critics say” is right there in the headline), a lie, mate.

@BethRigby Why goodbye to his wife and kids, is he committing hari-kiri?

Starmer bows out: when they take up the torch there will be a day when they have to pass it on. This is the end of my political journey. I am proud of what we have achieved. He thanks the speaker and his team for “being prepared to walk through fire for me”. He looks up to the gallery and speaks to the campaigners looking on that he sought to give voice to.
And his final words: “To my wife and children: I love you. Goodbye” Reeves in tears as he departs to a standing ovation.

I am sure whoever wrote all four of these thought nobody would suspect that they were all written by the same person. It is really the “T”s and the “Y”s which give it away.

I'm defending Nolan's Odyssey bc I dislike the chuddy takes on twitter, but I don't even like Nolan that much. Memento I liked. The Batmen were clunky, as was Inception. Dunkirk was OK. Barbie was great, tho

Anc historian here. On the Odyssey and history, just a recap. The Odyssey refers to at least three contexts: 1. 1400-1200 BCE, Late Bronze Age, "Mycenean" civ: palaces, chariots, bureaucracy, writing, stratified society. Contacts with Hittite Asia Minor. Perhaps "Trojan War".

@nyttypos @RichardMRe What the piece does not say, but is feasible, is trading across cases within the conservative coalition.
But Callais seems a problem for this overall narrative because the Chief led a coalition in the other direction in Milligan.
English

@RichardMRe And what’s the point of getting on the bandwagon (supposing it is that and not just unalloyed agreement), simply maintaining a (in this hypothesized instance) false appearance of personal command?

@RichardMRe Astute piece, but overlooks critical distinction between the 2016-2020 era and 24-26 era choices: the enhanced democratic legitimacy enjoyed by Trump II admin.
CJR stood athwart controversial policies e.g., DACA termination b/c Trump I could be viewed as accidental/aberrant.
English

@holland_tom OK, but “I’ve now watched it twice, and it is by some way the best cinematic adaptation of a Greek myth I have ever seen. It honours Homer while simultaneously making something new of him[.]” is a very specific claim.
How many cinematic adaptations of Greek myths have you seen?

@Philip_Huff It’s not just a sentimental attachment to America but starting over in a different country w/o your loved ones.
Very few people are Balogun with opportunities in 2/3 countries, and feted everywhere.
Used to be the “homeless, tempest-tost” were welcome here.
Used to be.
English

@hvsancheti I think it depends on how much of an attachment you have to the country
