I'm actually appalled by the Martin Short documentary. As I was sitting and watching it, it occurred to me that Martin Short, acting as Jiminy Glick while interviewing Sean Hayes, sneezed in the middle of passing a platter of donuts and said, "Stupid COVID." I find the skit gross and in bad taste, especially since we have lost over 1 million people in the United States to COVID. As we discovered in 2026, the death toll around the world was about 7 million. It’s really hard to fathom that six years after COVID hit, people are making jokes unless this was an engineered disease or cold intended to cause great deaths (from the Big V shot 💉 and ventilators) worldwide. After reading an article by Mary Kekatos from ABC on May 12, 2022, which stated that 1 million deaths in the United States exceeded HIV/AIDS deaths over the last 40 years, I question how it is acceptable to make light of COVID if you have lost loved ones to this tragic cause. When does it become funny? Why does it become funny? Those are my questions. I find it ironic that COVID has been the butt of many jokes lately, as if it’s no big deal, even though we’ve lost millions of people. Losses to COVID are about 25 percent greater than the U.S. military death toll in World War II. The official count of service members lost in that war is 405,399. It would be like losing all the inhabitants of Atlanta, Georgia; in 2019, the city had a population of 488,800. Somehow, having COVID seems funny to these comedians because everything is amusing to them—serious or not. I would never make fun of anyone who died from HIV/AIDS, cancer, Nazi camps, or suicide, etc. Most of these comedians aren’t even that funny. Show me your friends and I can tell you who you are. I see that he is friends with Tom Hanks; which is not a compliment if you know about the rumors circulating about him. You pretty much have to have a twisted mind to make jokes about COVID. No one writing any of these articles is challenging these comedians who are making light of things when we’ve lost millions. I just find it very strange and sick.
