I’m truly honored, and it’s still kind of surreal! I had a dream over 20 years ago to work on a team that won an Emmy. I also dreamed of working with ILM in some capacity since I was a kid. Those dreams became a reality—an incredible experience working with such talented artists. And last week I got to meet Britt Lower in person! Not only is she an amazing actor, writer, and director. She is so kind. She thanked me for my work on the show. Oh, and she has the cutest little dog. But just as I tell my students, once you achieve one goal, there are always new goals to unlock and strive for 🙌🏽. I’ve been writing more over the past 5 years, and I received my MFA in screenwriting in 2021. My new goals are to make a feature and more shorts!

@WillFaucherVFX @OxygenCube3D You may not be gaining or losing anything but for someone else they may be gaining something, it may be easier for them that way. If the majority of your footage is shot in Log and you don’t have a DI and it’s only you working on something I can see why someone may opt for this

@hypershadervfx @OxygenCube3D You can apply a conversion at render time in unreal so that your exr is pre converted. But youre not gaining or losing anything by doing it this way. Its something I would prefer to do in wherever I am grading/matching to factor out any issues/unknowns

Those of you who colorgrade your #Unrealengine renders in post (davinci resolve, premiere, etc), what are some of your main gripes? What are the biggest hurdles or issues you face when doing this?

@WillFaucherVFX @OxygenCube3D Personally I prefer all my media in scene linear as it’s is less complicated in my mind but I could see if someone needs a fast way to get things in and out without a pipeline why they may have that preference for small personal projects

@WillFaucherVFX @OxygenCube3D My assumption would be you have mixed media, no pipeline and want everything to automatically come in to the same space. Say you shot footage in S-Log, comps rendered In S-Log and then also wanted anything from unreal to also be in S-Log so everything comes in consistently

@WillFaucherVFX @OxygenCube3D In summary using Log doesn’t mean your limiting dynamic range But also you might as well just use an IDT in divinci to convert it into a log space to grade

@WillFaucherVFX @OxygenCube3D I get where you’re coming from but grading is pretty much always done in Log. Even scene linear images supplied from VFX Vendors are still graded in log spaces like ACEScc or quasi log spaces like ACEScct

Which software do you like to use the most in CGi and VFX? These are some of the shots I worked on Avengers Infinity War rendered with Clarisse. (RIP)

@Halo_VFX @henningsanden That being said painter is so much better in every other way and it’s such a shame that Adobe don’t care about the VFX industry much with their main focus on games and smaller projects, it could be far better than Mari but the priorities from Adobe are just not there for VFX

@Halo_VFX @henningsanden I find the opposite, Mari is so much faster with large assets with large numbers of UDIMs You don’t get weird export issues with UDIMs from Mari either and colourspace is an absolute nightmare when importing textures Lack of nodegraph for procedural setups too is quite limiting

Both Mari and Painter are incredible software, but my GOD painter is so much better at actually hand painting. No more projection errors.
