Omani crude is now selling for $140 a barrel—not the paper Brent price everyone quotes, but the real cargo price. Less than three weeks ago it was around $67. That is a staggering shift in a very short time.
At the same time, shipping traffic that normally heads to Jebel Ali in the UAE—the largest port in the GCC—is now being rerouted through Sohar Port in Oman. The economic impact of that is enormous, the kind of opportunity that appears perhaps once in 50 years. Goods that would normally enter the UAE are now moving through Oman. All of them.
The ripple effects are everywhere. Oman Air and Salam Air are seeing such a surge in business that, in theory, they could go out and buy a football club in the Premier League. But that isn’t the Omani style. Oman tends to move quietly—without fanfare, without drawing unnecessary attention, and without rubbing success in anyone’s face. That discretion is very much part of the country’s character.
Business setup inquiries are also exploding. For those of us working in that space, however, the situation is more complicated than it might seem from the outside. Too much opportunity arriving too quickly creates its own problems. Business visa applications are piling up, and the backlog has grown to the point where we can no longer promise clients a reliable timeline.

Singapore Ministry of Law has released the Singapore Guide for Using Generative AI in the Legal Sector, a practical framework aimed at supporting the responsible adoption of GenAI in legal practice.
The Guide highlights several key principles for legal professionals and institutions integrating AI into their work. It emphasizes on governance and accountability in the use of GenAI within legal practice Making it clear that while GenAI can assist in legal tasks such as drafting, research, and document review, the ultimate responsibility for legal work remains with the legal professional.
Legal professionals are cautioned against inputting confidential or privileged information into public or unsecured GenAI systems without adequate safeguards. It recommends that organisations and/or law firms develop internal policies, train staff on AI literacy, and establish clear workflows for responsible GenAI use.
The Guide encourages law firms to assess their needs, conduct due diligence on AI vendors, and implement tools in a controlled and monitored manner. This step-by-step approach helps reduce risks associated with premature or unregulated adoption. It also promotes continuous monitoring and review as an essential component of responsible GenAI use
While the Guide reflects the realities of a highly developed legal ecosystem, it offers useful lessons for emerging digital markets. As AI adoption continues to grow across Africa, there is an increasing need for practical frameworks that support responsible use within the legal profession.

have you seen these charts? they're honestly scary.
right now, for every 2 Maldivians working, there's about 1 dependent person - usually kids.
by 2045, elders will outnumber kids as dependents.
by 2062, the burden grows so much that for every 3 working-age Maldivians, there'll be 2 dependents (mostly elderly).
think about what this actually means for you: heavier taxes, struggling hospitals, strained pensions, and more families juggling elder care at home. we're not ready for this reality.

@1LittleBlueFish That’s great for you. But lots of people are likely to be affected with this level of pollution. In any case it’s wise to take precautions.

Air quality today is the worst it’s been in a long time but no one seems to be taking any precautionary matters. Didn’t see a single person wearing a mask in Male’.

Air quality in Malé right now is extremely poor. Unhealthy for ALL people.
Not just for sensitive groups.
This could be the same for some other regions of Maldives too.
We understand that shopping for Ramadan is important.
But staying indoors is safer today.

Maldives Police target “expatriates” for checks between 00:00–06:00, effectively imposing a night-time curfew on migrant workers.
This is racial and status-based profiling, not law enforcement.
Let’s be clear: many so-called “immigration violations” are manufactured by Maldivian employers and recruiters — fake jobs, unpaid wages, confiscated passports, and abandonment.
When workers are exploited and left with no choice, the state arrests them, locks them in cells, and deports them — while the real criminals walk free.
Workers are denied a real chance to clear their name, recover stolen wages, or sue abusive employers.
This violates the UDHR (Arts. 2, 7, 9, 13) and the Migrant Workers Convention, which forbids collective punishment.
Criminalising victims while protecting exploiters is systematic abuse, not governance.
I call on @HRCMaldives @AGOfficeMV @PGO_Maldives to investigate and act.
Silence is complicity.
