Capturing Christianity
Capturing Christianity@CapturingChrist·
Btw, Christianity is extremely based (on evidence). • Its core claim is a public, historical event, not a private revelation • The central miracle was proclaimed immediately and locally, where it could be checked and rejected • The movement grows in the same place the falsifying evidence would have existed • The earliest sources are close to the events they describe (by ancient standards) • The founders gain nothing (power, sex, wealth) and suffer for the claim • The resurrection is treated as falsifiable (cf. “if Christ is not raised…”) • Women are named as first witnesses despite this being culturally disadvantageous • The theology precedes later institutional power, not the other way around • The religion survives intense persecution before it gains political backing • Christianity expects ongoing miracles, not just a one-off founding event • Many modern miracle claims are documented, investigated, and survive scrutiny • There are standing institutions devoted to saying “no” to bad miracle claims • Some Christian miracles (e.g., Zeitoun) involve mass public witnesses, not just individuals • Christianity is comfortable appealing to forensics, medicine, archaeology, and history • Its truth claim is so historical that disproving one event would collapse the system Embrace Christianity.

This post is not a debate post, this is matter of fact, according to history, conciliar minutes, and modern scholarship. This is an informative post. If anyone has a problem with the information presented in this post they can go write their feelings in their diaries or something. The Letter of Ibas of Edessa to Mari Dadisho of Selecuia-Ctesiphon was accepted at the Council of Chalcedon in 451 as proof of Ibas’ “orthodoxy.” Ibas was present at the council and the letter was read out loud in the presence of all. Acts of Chalcedon: “163. Maximus the most devout bishop of the city of Antioch said: ‘From what has just been read it has become clear that the most devout Ibas is guiltless of everything charged against him; and from the reading of the transcript of the letter ***produced by his adversary*** his writing has been seen to be orthodox.” Between Chalcedon and Constantinople 532, this was a point of embarrassment for the Chalcedonians, who, according to Dr Brock, Fr Price, and others, were trying to remove the evidence of this from the records, as this was incriminating. By 553, Emperor Justinian pushed the narrative that Ibas did not write the letter and that it was a forgery in order to condemn the Three Chapters: Theodore of Mopsuestia, Ibas of Edessa, and Theodoret of Cyrus - (who is still officially venerated by the Eastern Chalcedonians according to their council in Nicaea in 787,) to exonerate Chalcedon of this embarrassment. Pope Vigilius of Rome was initially against this, defending the Letter of Ibas to Mari, until he was forced to change his mind under duress, having been put under arrest by the Emperor. Latins venerated by the Chalcedonians, such as Isidore of Seville & Columbano, continued to argue for the orthodoxy of the Letter of Ibas. By the end of the 6th century, Pope Gregory of Rome stated the letter was a forgery, in order to be consistent with the Council of Constantinople 553. Part of being a Christian is honesty. The One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church known to the Westerners as Oriental Orthodoxy will never accept the dishonesty and revisionism of the Chalcedonians and their following councils. May the one Lord Jesus Christ guide you to the straight path. Kyrie Eleison. Maranatha. Please see Dr Sebastian Brock, from his article “The Conversations of the Syrian Orthodox under Justinian (532)” & Fr Richard Price from “Acts of Chalcedon” footnotes both highlighted here:

@Zip0000000 @he_negash Honestly don't see how the comment was insulting him or really anyone other than negligent anoms on his discord that misread the Syriac and claimed scholars translated it as "as." Really don't know what the offense is.

When the Lord Jesus said, “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces," The dogs and swine were spoken prophetically about Jay Dyer et al.

@redeemed_zoomer Who says we don’t have strong institutions? You’re usually more charitable than that RZ. We’ve been in unity since 451 and have kept the orthodox faith since the beginning even at the hands of martyrdom. What’s your measure of strength?

I no longer believe Catholics have very strong arguments. I think they have weak arguments backed by a strong institution I DO believe, unlike most conservative Protestants, that institutions MATTER and hold sway over the common person This is why Catholicism will continue to beat Protestantism until we recover our historic institutions Catholic arguments would be laughed at if they didn’t have the giant institution they do. Objectively, their arguments are no stronger than Oriental Orthodox and Sedevacantist ones, but nobody takes those seriously on account of them having no strong institutions

@KenoticT @CCyrillian @ChaseHaggard1 @C2Antiquity @AnaniasFather Social media with apologetics makes this all so messy more especially for those younger. Could you imagine if we saw constant live streams / YouTube videos of the fathers back in the day? We see and communicate more of one another than we need to be. Has its blessings and curses

We have to stop trusting these Online OOs like Agen to act honestly. these guys don’t care about getting to the truth. This is the same group that mass reported Jays stream the other day. This is also the same group that hijacked the /gg redirect name for @AnaniasFather discord so people wanting to learn about EO get redirected instead to an OO server. Now they misrepresent @Craig_Truglia and attempt to slander his character and apply bad motive to him. shameful.

@CCyrillian Aside from the obvious answer being the Bible, Silent Patriarch is a complete conviction on my life especially since his life being so recent. Had to put the book down many times after reading certain segments. His life in prayer changed a lot for me.

If it helps here’s the exact part I’m referring to as to how Eusebius describes the palace burning and the torture put upon Christians

I kindly ask if you could correct your segment in this article especially not sourcing from The New Yorker where you got your research from as it’s historically inaccurate to what I already showed you what Eusebius says himself

@simmoneshah As a member of the Coptic Orthodox Church I don’t believe this statement of “self-immolation” is accurately depicted from your sourcing of the New Yorker. Here’s a citation from what Eusebius mentions about this burning of the palace event portal.sds.ox.ac.uk/articles/onlin…

I also hate this. We will need to agree as a society that stuff like this isn’t cool. In the same way, we all sort of collectively agreed it’s never cool to dox even someone you really don’t like. Please help shame these guys and any that follow.

Fun fact: There's a random AI company parading around an AI chatbot to "chat with a YouTuber" and it's so incredibly bad. Just spews lies. They also never got permission to use my likeness, and I suspect several others on this list were never even asked. Avoid this TRASH
