The holidays can be beautiful, but they can also be heavy. For many, this season brings memories that ache a little more loudly—empty chairs, familiar laughter we miss, names we still whisper in our hearts. As we celebrate, let’s also hold space for those who are grieving, remembering, or simply getting through the season one day at a time. Our thoughts and love are with everyone carrying loss during the holidays.
In that same spirit of care and reflection, I want to share something close to my heart. This coming March, Aku: Journey to Ibra by @Micah_Johnson3 will be released—a reminder of how powerful stories can be. Books aren’t just pages and pictures; they can be lifelines, mirrors, and doors to worlds that help a child believe in themselves. If you’re able, consider gifting a book to a child in your life. Growing up, reading wasn’t easy for me. I had hearing difficulties caused by fluid in my ears, and a lot of words didn’t land the way they should have. What changed everything was patience—someone taking the time to read to me, to explain words I didn’t understand, to meet me where I was instead of rushing me along. That simple act of care helped shape who I am today.
So this season, alongside the lights and gifts, let’s remember the power of compassion—remember those we’ve lost, uplift those who are struggling, and invest in the future of a child through something as simple and profound as a book. Sometimes, the smallest gestures leave the biggest legacy.
