What makes this particularly concerning is that the largest amount of Black voters in the country reside in southern states that are most likely to gerrymander districts based on racist practices. This is a ruling that ignores the reality of race and politics in America.

That is the technical term for breaking up a minority voting bloc by drawing district lines that put pieces of it into multiple white-majority districts, so that the minority voters never have enough votes in any one district to elect a representative. NPR's analysis of today's ruling estimates that up to 15 House seats currently held by Black members of Congress could be redrawn to elect white representatives instead. Fifteen. That would represent the largest single-cycle reduction in Black congressional representation since the end of Reconstruction in 1877. Reconstruction ended in 1877. The federal government withdrew from the South. Black Americans were stripped of the right to vote, the right to hold office, and the right to fair representation. It took until 1965 for those rights to be restored. It took until 1965 for the Voting Rights Act. Sixty years later, in 2026, the Supreme Court has just made it possible to undo the work of 1965 by changing what the law means. The Republican-controlled states already preparing new maps include Texas, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, and Florida. The Democratic states attempting to counter include California and Virginia. The total potential swing is more than enough to determine control of the United States House of Representatives in the November midterms. Here is what the White House said today, through spokeswoman Abigail Jackson. "The color of one's skin should not dictate which congressional district you belong in. We commend the court for putting an end to the unconstitutional abuse of the Voting Rights Act and protecting civil rights." That statement is the perfect inversion of what just happened.

Yeah, I don't see myself voting for @jamestalarico. I don't know who I'm voting for in November but right now it's not him. There are 3.6 million black Americans in Texas. He didn't feel the need to ask for our votes in the primary which may why he's missing on speaking up for our rights to have equal representation right now.
