I'm curious: 1. What does the law say about the invasive tactics of these shows? 2. Does the person or persons being “exposed” not have the right to their dignity being protected under the law? 3. Are people allowed to storm somebody's private property under false pretence and then expose them during their most intimate moments? 4. Do these shows obtain media releases before they publish these episodes? 5. Are the people whose faces are published on these made aware of their rights? Here is why I ask: These shows are now all over the Internet, specifically on YouTube, and the format is exactly the same. Ncamashi. Get two cameras. A guest with a story about a potential cheating partner. Two goons dressed in black vests and what appear to be some protection vests. A host with very little regard for the humanity and dignity of others. And then storm the suspect’s home or private property. And after the show, little evidence of any continuing support of the guests because of the trauma of these incidents. These guests are still people. People who still live in these communities and must bare the humiliation of their personal affairs being made public. Here is a bet: one of these good days, they will storm the property of somebody armed and unafraid to discharge their weapon. Somebody will be shot or stabbed and then die. The media will make this a breaking news national headline. And then, like moths to the fire, the whole country will start talking about the scourge of these shows whose existence relies on profiting off the pains and miseries of people experiencing poverty. Notice how to youve never seen an episode published about a cheating partner in Camps Bay. There is an insidious reliance on poverty as a stimulant for this content to exist. Bookmark this tweet. Don't get me wrong, I am no prude. I enjoy entertainment like the next person. But this trend is dangerous and, if we are honest, exploitative. But Ke, jolang.
