Our firefighters put their lives on the line to protect our communities every day and it is imperative that we stand with them and our public workforce to ensure they are properly paid and have fair benefits. It is unacceptable that the budget removes funding set-asides for future collective bargaining agreements including for our firefighters. Our firefighters have waited for a collective bargaining agreement that provides wages to keep up with the rising cost of living and as the budget is now with the Council, we must prioritize this funding for our first responders. These workforce investment funds for collective bargaining agreements and non-union pay increases could be funded with revenues currently being held back by the Office of the Chief Financial Officer. I will be working with my colleagues to prioritize funding for collective bargaining agreements and non-union pay increases this budget.

DC Taxpayers deserve a budget that reflects their values.

DC Firefighters oppose the current version of the one front door act. Occupants need to be able to safely exit buildings and firefighters need be able to have multiple access points to rescue occupants and extinguish the fire. @councilofdc

This is what the extended response time gap looks like (red). When a ladder truck is unavailable, response distances increase and response times can follow. Our members will always respond — but they need the tools and apparatus in service to do the job safely and effectively.

🚨 Truck 12 (Tenleytown) Out of Service — Northwest DC Ladder trucks perform critical life-saving functions including rescues, ventilation, and gaining access to buildings during fires. Frontline and reserve apparatus are essential to protecting our communities.

We are saddened to announce the LODD of Battalion Fire Chief Keith T. Long. He dedicated 38 years to serving the District, a local 36 member before promoting to Chief. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all who served alongside him. Rest easy, Chief.

The Glenn is ~63 years old, the only ice-breaking vessel and our largest marine asset on DC’s water. It’s been sidelined too often over the past decade. We’re grateful it’s operating today,but DC must prioritize funding a modern replacement to protect the public.

Your DC Fire Boat, the Glenn, is responsible for cutting thru ice on our waterways! It is one of the only boats capable of doing this in our area-and is older than most of us reading these tweets—63 years old!
