I was so happy to find this in an Edmonton bookstore. It was Survival that inspired me to write. Thank you, Margaret Atwood. @MargaretAtwood

@CanadianGreens @ElizabethMay Why is it not a requirement that oil must shipped through BC as CanaPux? There would be no need for a pipeline, no risk of a river-killing spill, and no need for tankers on the north coast?

Fact check: No, U.S. oil tankers do not pass through the Hecate Strait. @ElizabethMay shows exactly why the tanker ban exists, and why protecting it matters.

@FrankWAuthor @BlairKing_ca I don't understand why it's not a requirement that oil should be moved as CanaPux. That would make it safe and easily handled, and there would be no need for a pipeline in the north.

There's no doubt that the frequency of tanker spills has reduced over decades, but disasters still occur. The issue therefore is not simply probabilities, but implications, especially with regard to heavy oil. Returning to this conversation, there is the problem of disinformation by Scheer and others. Honest debate requires factual information.🦉

It's hard to believe that a "scientist" can promote this sort of nonsense. Mosquitoes are one of our most important pollinators and a vital food source for fish and birds.

The Moose Hide Campaign is withdrawing permission for BC Conservative leader John Rustad to wear a Moose Hide Pin. #bcpoli

@OnaagoshinAnang @mrmarksmeets @richardzussman No the reality is that you are projecting without any actual info in your possession. You live in an echo chamber where you imagine all conservatives are the same and then you project your ignorance on others. I'm guessing you have no clue what the BC Conservatives stand for

Another day another misleading thread by Tzeporah on natural gas. This week her emphasis is on water use so let's look at some of the misinformation she is spreading: She starts with the truth, fracking does withdraw about 6 billion liters of water a year @FNLNGAlliance #bcpoli

@iainlawrence Not even close, and no there are not a lot of others because the rest of the world, unlike you, can do math.

@BlairKing_ca Rather like the Fraser Valley. I picked just one reference to broader areas. There are others.

@iainlawrence LOCATED IN AN ENCLOSED BASIN...seriously you are being deliberately obtuse now....

@BlairKing_ca Read the whole article. "up to 13% of the water vapor in PBL was from CDW during certain days in Salt Lake City, Utah, located in an enclosed basin in northern America. This is a significant water contribution and should be verified independently in SIMILAR URBAN ENVIRONMENTS.

@iainlawrence At this point I'm not sure if you are really obtuse, trying to be obtuse or are simply ignorant. That article deals with coal plants in a confined airshed in very particular seasonal air patterns and is utterly irrelevant to this discussion.

@BlairKing_ca If you read beyond that sentence you must have seen that the article talks about more than the atmospheric water budget. I assumed you knew that the effects of greenhouse gases extend beyond global warming.

@iainlawrence "Combustion-derived water (CDW), a source of water vapor coming from fossil fuel or biomass burning, is negligible in the global atmospheric water budget." But I'm guessing you didn't read (or understand) the article so that sort of detail got by you

@BlairKing_ca If you understood irony you would not have said that. I'll continue to read the peer-reviewed articles from respected sources. Please send me a link the first time you write one. (I'd be happy to correct your grammar.)

@iainlawrence If you understood that abstract (or even the paper itself) it would really help. Unfortunately I can't teach you atmospheric Chemistry on the fly so go on and say what you want and the rest of us will continue to ignore your input

@iainlawrence Except if you actually did any math you would see it doesn't. I honestly get tired of folks like you who make these entertaining claims while never bothering to do the math so see whether they make any sense. Do you know how much water vapour is in the atmosphere?

@BlairKing_ca Laugh all you like. I'm just reminding you that every cloud has a silver lining, and that if you're going to extol the virtues of natural gas as a water generator you should also mention that that might come with consequences.

@iainlawrence I*'m going to simply laugh at you here since the whole argument being made by Tzeporah is we are losing water to this industry and now you are arguing we should be worried that the water vapour is somehow a problem?

@iainlawrence The amount of water vapour generated by combustion is not even in the significant figures in the global system which is why it is ignored by every significant scientific body. Simply put water vapour from combustion is inconsequential in this case

So not only is the natural gas industry not a net consumer of clean water it is a huge net generator, on a local, regional and national level. In a pragmatic sense it is retuning water to the hydrosphere at a far higher rate than it is withdrawing water from the hydrosphere.
