@excalipermx Steam is also an example that proofs that the concept has merit. Gabe Newell the creator of steam himself spoke out about it and said that piracy in countries vastly decreased once they established a good service for destribution. His approach is decreasing reason for piracy.

@r_a_b_b_i_t I've been doing an effort to understand JP ethics and to explain the ones of someone overseas. I've seen plenty of bad faith interpretations of messages or dumbing them down to make us look stupid. I want to be respectful, but at this point textspace can't satisfy the demand.

@r_a_b_b_i_t And overseas was talking about game preservation for the past year, which was started by the initiative. This situation is just the next one and autotranslate brought in a new audience. Thats why overseas seems so united in their ideas. JP is just 1 year late into the discussion.

@gerogeroR The reason many people claim that it doesn't cost much is, that dedicated server or offline play is ususally part of the natural development of a game for testing purposes in house. Restrictions are added afterwards to gurantee safety. Planning ahead makes implementation cheaper.

@gerogeroR The idea behind the law the west tries to apply isn't expecting game servers to run forever and it won't affect games retroactively They want developers to make their games with an end of life plan in mind. Either offline play, P2P or dedicated server. No costs after EoS expected

@Tereta_Orcmon Many people also think, that this way of pampering to a wider audience outside of the original audience lead to the downfall of many companies in the west. While we still argue to this day who is right, maybe it helps to understand that our motivations comes from love for the OG.

@Tereta_Orcmon Maybe it helps with the understanding for our resentment of companies. We also don't want this political correctness. But businesses think that saver work can be sold to more people. This leads to overseas companys forcing changes onto the author, which art we fell in love with.

@momiji_manjyuu I appreciate reading people from JP speaking from their side, where we would not dare to assume. It is nice to see people speak out on hypocricy that is hold against us. We know we are not perfect, but we were ready to apologize for our bad apples. But JP had a better reputation.

@r_a_b_b_i_t It just has become a greater talk about ethics. JP continuesly argued that it hurts the artist, which overseas can't understand if it was abandond and didn't make money anymore. Overseas is mostly talking about morals, while JP talks about laws.

@r_a_b_b_i_t Yeah... no one is talking about that. I have not seen a single person outside of JP asking for that, but for some reason JP keeps bringing it up and try to weaponize a fake demand to make us look stupid. Those bad faith interpretations make it not worth having a conversation.

@RepGesAuto_NieR The general opinion is, that big corporations start to introduce exploitive strategies to increase profits, while we notice a steady decline in the actual quality. We believe in good quality and positive customer relationship finding success, like Steam. Not monetizing strategies

@RepGesAuto_NieR Look at our history across EU and US, revolution against laws or oppression have been common, if the law starts to infringe on the rights of the less fortunate. While it has become more common to hate on it, I think reasonable people still understand the importance of companies

@Tats_Gunso Would have never been on my bingo card. But I prefer this open discussion where people express their unfiltered opinions rather than fake uphold standards. We can't find solutions with fake opinions. But raw feelings atleast reflect a persons character to understand them better.

@MUKIDEZA2 While JP might critizise how we change companies over our lifetime, the laborlaws in my country are pretty good which wouldn't allow such behavior towards their employes. We have to send in a notice and give them a set time to find a solution, but after that we are free to go.

@CURSEis @ootaushiichi I start to feel that JP doesn't realise how bad the reputation of companies like SE, Capcom or Nintendo has become from the steady decline of quality over the years. They are part of the global companies that lead to this uproar in the first place. Nier is just another incident.

@momiji_manjyuu Despite differences I had the chance to have pleasant conversations that would otherwise be impossible. It definitly broke the reputation that JP was able to keep up so long, once the face is removed people speak their mind. I expect flaws in human so we got this one in common 😄

@Tats_Gunso Despite differences I was interested in understanding JPs side of thinking. I had very nice people taking the time to reading and answering in detail, despite opposite views. But it gets tiresome when a complex problem gets simplified to a point that it misrepresents the issue.

Is this true? Did Japan really pirate their own media because of distribution problems? It's all of this just silly?

@ember2528 @3u5zKUHcNwECe89 @SigmaSyndikate @omusubirolling1 Sadly, not everything makes it overseas and I think many of us didn't realise how different the view on art is. As creator we are as grateful to our supporter as the other way around. So it came to a shock that art is so easily dismissed when a company sees it as unprofitable.

@phase010923 Applying the law is putting resources into chasing something that ultimatively might resolve in a loss, especially with different global laws. But investing in the accessibilty of more people reduces pricy while converting pirates to customers and potential loyal fans.

@phase010923 The idea behind is, that people who don't want to pay always find a way around, no matter how much we try to apply the law. So it's better to get the people as customers who were willing, but just couldn't and had to rely on those methodes. And it reduced piracy massively.
