That’s exactly what you described. She even mentioned “responsibilities.” In some cases, it comes down to avoiding responsibility, without recognizing that none of us chose to be here so perhaps others shouldnt be given the chance to exist, experience life, and explore the world just the way it is.

I hope her choice is purely upheld not out of these two psychological biases. 1. Choice-Supportive Bias Once we make a choice, we tend to retroactively see that choice in a more positive light. We overemphasize the benefits of the path we took and downplay the flaws, essentially "cheerleading" for our own past decisions to protect our self-esteem and the cost of admitting we were wrong. 2. Reactance Theory If people are actively trying to convince a person they are wrong or should regret their choice, that person may experience a “Psychological Reactance”. This is a state of defensiveness where the person feels their freedom of choice is being threatened. To reassert their autonomy and free will, they will dig in even deeper. Not necessarily because they believe they are right, but because they refuse to be controlled by the opinions of others.

Aren’t you happy having your daughter in your life? Now imagine if you had made the same kind of decision. Not every choice is right just because it’s what you want. And just because you had a bad experience with one man doesn’t mean every man is bad. It’s perfectly fine to choose not to have children, but basing that decision on avoiding having a child with an elusive man is a generalization.
