The earliest known use of the word "gamer" was in the code of laws governing Walsall, England, dated ~1450. The document bans games including cards and backgammon, threatening prison for anyone housing a "gamer" on their property. Proof we have been persecuted since day one

Here's why I refuse to make fun of Clavicular: every generation has a figure who represents them, who sums up what their generation offers to the world. That's what Clavicular is for Gen Z. I may not understand him, but I respect him as the voice of every single person his age

i think it’s important not to become bitter as i get older, so i refuse to make fun of Clavicular, who is the best of Gen Z, the height of their influence on american culture, the figure they will be associated with for all time. i think that’s *good*

@JosephKahn yeah it’s confusing when people work in a different industry than you but still live in the same city as you, i could see how that’s throwing you for a loop

I've never understood why anyone lives in Los Angeles proper if they're not in the entertainment business from a pure cost of living pov. San Diego at least has better public schools and is safer (if you're trying to raise a family), with all the California beauty.

TL;DR: For a journalist, IMHO, think of your chatbot as a combination of an intern, a first-pass editor, and a fact-checker. It's job is to do grunt work and help you turn in cleaner copy, not to "inspire" you.

I use AI to do research (i.e., find things to read, explain parts of academic papers I find ambiguous or confusing), transcribe interviews, generate pushback on my column thesis, suggest trims when I'm over my word count, sharpen podcast interview questions, and perform a final fact check on columns and editorials. But mostly it's compressing the ancillary tasks to the main job: reading, thinking, and writing.
Matthew Cole@mattbencole

This is literally what my students say when they get busted using AI. “I didn’t use it to write my paper just for brainstorming, outlining, and editing.” Yeah that’s most of what writing is.

@handsome_pal i think sometimes people just bolt discourse onto a new subject like a template, regardless of whether it really applies
