It’s better for old people now, but the job market/economy for younger Americans is arguably worse, combined with higher rates of inflation on everyday goods. Also, sentiment was prolly better then because Americans saw a light at the end of the tunnel for the recession with a more competent administration in DC. For a lot of Americans now, a slumping economy plus Trump 2 is a total hope-killer. Numbers like credit card defaults and auto loan defaults are higher than the recession. Wages have also decreased from inflation a few times over the last five years. The only number lower than the Great Recession is mortgage defaults and I’d argue that’s from a lack of young home ownership in comparison since that’s the group getting hammered the most.
