This has been said a thousand times before, but allow me to add my own voice: the era of humans writing code is over. Disturbing for those of us who identify as SWEs, but no less true. That's not to say SWEs don't have work to do, but writing syntax directly is not it.

Didn't learn this until I was 30. And the most important part for me was - when you look foolish, the part of your brain living on other people's validation breaks. It hurts - and then it dissolves. And you're like "wait, it's still ok" Foolishness gives you back parts of yourselves you rented out for validation. 💪🏽

The ability to look foolish is an essential ingredient to outperformance. The reason is simple ... If you do what everyone else is doing, you'll get the same results everyone else is getting. To beat the crowd, you need a variant perception. If you're right, you outperform; if wrong, you underperform. Unique insights set you apart, but they might make you look foolish short-term.

@atmanpandya @shaneparrish This is true of you believe in the importance of material things. I would offer that the most valuable things in life are love, friendship and one’s sense of being and belonging. Young or old, at best they bring life’s greatest joys and at worst our deepest sorrows.

The more successful you are the more you have to lose. The older you are the more your opportunity cost to trying and experimenting new things versus doubling down on what works. If you don't care about other peoples opinions, you'll not care about appearing foolish If you have some wealth saved up, you can better withstand the opportunity cost

Uh, just some facts…under Trump the economy lost 2.9 million jobs. The unemployment rate increased by 1.6 percentage points to 6.3%. •The international trade deficit Trump promised to reduce went up. The U.S. trade deficit in goods and services in 2020 was the highest since 2008 and increased 40.5% from 2016. •The number of people lacking health insurance rose by 3 million. •The federal debt held by the public went up, from $14.4 trillion to $21.6 trillion. •Home prices rose 27.5% •Illegal immigration increased. •Coal production declined 26.5%, and coal-mining jobs dropped by 16.7%. •The murder rate rose to the highest level since 1997. Yeah, I don’t miss ANY of that!

@ID_AA_Carmack is humble and gives due credit to all of the great developers in the world, but I think his superpower is in how he combines his skills and knowledge with an uncommon intensity of focus. He said about AGI that it's not just about intelligence. The same may be true for people. It's not just how intelligent a person is, but how they focus, commit, and apply what they know.
