If I Become President, I’ld abolish Indigineship and federal character — ADC Presidential Aspirant, Rotimi Amaechi Former Minister of Transportation and presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has called for a shift away from ethnic and regional identity in Nigeria, insisting that citizenship should take precedence over indigeneity and zoning. Speaking on national unity and governance structure, Amaechi said Nigerians should be assessed based on their contributions rather than their origin. He stated: “Access us by what we have done, and reach a conclusion. I don’t want to be hearing I’m from north, I’m from South and from East. I’m not from South or East or West. I’m a Nigerian.” He further argued that if he becomes president, the current system of indigene-based classification would be abolished. “If I become president, there will not be indigineship. There will be citizenship. We are first and foremost citizens of Nigeria all this I’m West, I’m North, I’m East and you’re calling people to vote for you based on religion and ethnicity” On the issue of federal character, he said “There will be no federal character. Every Nigeria will be a member of the federation.” However, he acknowledged the rationale behind the policy, noting it was introduced to correct structural imbalance. Using an analogy, Amaechi linked unemployment and social unrest to systemic failure, arguing that economic inclusion would reduce crime. “Let me give you an example. If everybody is employed, would there be arm robbers? If all of us are working shares, we won’t have time to r+b because 6 a.m you’re at work and 6 p.m. you are closed, You are too tired to wake up to carry a g+n.” He concluded that insecurity such as r+bbery and kidn+pping stems largely from economic hardship rather than moral failure. “The reason why you’re seeing people carry a g+n and k+dnap people is because the system is bad.”

Police DSP K+lled Weeks To Retirement While Dispersing Thugs In Kano A police officer attached to the Hotoro Division in Kano State, identified as DSP Sani Isah, has reportedly been k+lled during a clash involving rival thugs. According to reports, the officer was deployed alongside other security operatives to restore order and disperse the f+ghting groups when one of the suspected thugs allegedly opened f+re with a dane g¥n, hitting him during the operation. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was later confirmed d+ad. Sources described the late officer as a respected member of the community who had served in the police force for more than three decades. He was said to be only a few weeks away from retirement before the tragic incident occurred. The development comes amid renewed concerns over rising thuggery and vi%lent clashes in several parts of Kano, including Hotoro, Fagge, Koki, Gyadi-Gyadi and surrounding areas.

Lagos Records Over 450 Domestic V+olence Complaints Every Month — DSVA The Lagos State Domestic and S£xual V+olence Agency has revealed that it now receives more than 450 domestic v+olence-related complaints every month through its hotlines, social media platforms and online channels. The agency’s Executive Secretary, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, disclosed this during a stakeholders’ engagement and technical training organised by the Lagos State Command and Control Centre in Ikeja on Tuesday. According to her, the agency records between 400 and 450 fresh cases monthly, stressing that domestic and s£x¥al v+olence remain heavily underreported despite the rising number of complaints. “We know we’ve not scratched the surface because these issues remain some of the most under-reported crimes globally, but we are encouraged that more people now have faith in the system,” she said. Vivour-Adeniyi explained that more victims are now seeking help through emergency lines, agency offices and social media platforms. She added that the agency operates a 24-hour gender-based v+olence virtual referral response service in partnership with emergency responders to ensure victims can access emergency help and psychosocial support at any time through the 203 emergency line. The agency boss also stressed that domestic v+olence is not limited to physical ab¥se, noting that emotional and verbal ab¥se are also recognised under Lagos State law. “The fact that the ab¥se is not physical does not make it less h@rmful. People should not d+e in silence,” she said. She further warned parents against hiding s£xual ab¥se cases involving their children, stating that concealing such crimes is punishable under the law. According to her, parents found guilty of covering up s£xual offences risk up to three years imprisonment. She urged families to report ab¥se cases promptly and make use of available support services to help victims get justice and proper care.
