I was bullied severely growing up—skinny kid, African kid, easy target. Back then, “I’m African” wasn’t a fun fact. It was apparently an invitation for jokes. Looking back, I’m grateful for it. Not for the pain—but for what it built. It taught me self-respect early: how to keep my head up when the room wants you to look down. That’s a skill you carry into everything—business, leadership, life.

“As a startup CEO, I sleep like a baby. I wake up every two hours and cry.” One of my favorite quotes as an entrepreneur and CEO of a startup.

Eventually, that will become the "uploading phase" where we can start to steer the space where we believe it should go. But you have to earn that right. You have to crawl before you walk, and walk before you run. Once we are running, I can say to a brand, "I know you have done things this way since the beginning of your company, but I want to show you a new way.

I have always been a disruptor. But when you enter a new industry, you have to be careful. Right now, @spreeai is in the "downloading phase." We are soaking up all this knowledge about the space.

We want people who know how to treat each other well. We also value intelligence. I shouldn't be the smartest person in the room. We should all be learning from each other. And finally: Speed. Speed kills. Execution is everything. 99% of startups fail because they have a great pitch but they just can't execute. That won't be our story.

We want the best of the best people at @SpreeAI . But we have a very simple rule for our core values: We are not hiring any assholes. The thing about Corporate America that gets a bad rap is the politics. Your work becomes your second home, so you probably want to like the people you work with.

You judge someone in three seconds. Fashion is the first sentence they never have to say out loud.

Entrepreneurship isn’t a job. It’s a way of living with responsibility on your mind at all times. There are no clean lines between work and life—only tradeoffs. You think while traveling. You plan while resting. You carry it quietly. People who haven’t built something won’t understand that weight. And that’s okay. But don’t let anyone soften the truth. This path demands everything before it gives anything back.

Now, when we walk into a room, we put on a show. We have models. We play music. There is a countdown timer. The models come into a conference room of business executives and demo our product live. It is the only time I have been in rooms where people give us standing ovations. (and tap their feet) Tech companies usually just bring slide decks. We bring the runway.

When we first started pitching brands, we pitched like tech companies. We had our PowerPoint presentation and our logos. Then I went to a fashion show, and a lightbulb went off. I said, "We need to be more creative".
