It was at Sangley Point where his four kids grew up as one of the Sangley babies who would walk at the Sangley airstrip at sunset. He saw action in the Mindanao anti-insurgency campaign and secessionist movements as a young lieutenant then. In 1990, he trained in the US as an International Military Student and became an instructor pilot of the MG520 attack helicopter. For all these, he has garnered several combat medals and was awarded the prestigious Haribon Award twice. One for surviving several successful combat missions in the Mindanao Anti Insurgency Campaign, and the other as a pioneering Commercial/Corporate Pilot who has given significant contributions in commercial aviation. He introduced ultra light flying in Mati, Davao Oriental through Mindanao SAGA Flying Club. He was also one of the founders of SECDEA Aviation. He also pioneered the first agricultural helicopter spraying in Mindanao. As a young lieutenant then, he was also one of the pilots who flew former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to ambush sites or areas stricken with calamity when he was the Mayor of Davao City and Chairman of the Regional Peace and Order Council of Region Eleven.
