It's almost like we need to "show the math" to make clear tool building is not magical thinking, and neither is the maintenance of tools—which kinda relates to the little attention maintenance gets. #ACH2021

#DigitizingEnlightenment - FBTEE project update. Working with Heurist (heuristplus.sydney.edu.au) and Intersect Australia (intersect.org.au) to move French Book Trade Databases from bespoke system to Heurist. Demo beta version due in next few weeks. Will announce here.

@ruthbrarian @quinnanya Increasing numbers of projects are moving to Heurist b/c it solves the separate code per project problem, and EVERYTHING is stored in the database. Cost of maintenance AND development AND project work is about 2 staff. Divide by 100 = 1 cup of coffee/day, by 1000 = one night out.

@ruthbrarian @quinnanya There IS a non-minimal, long-term sustainability path I've pursued explicitely for 15 years. Heurist (HeuristNetwork.org) runs dozens of varied projects on two servers. It could run thousands. As long as the code is maintained, all project and websites will keep working.
