Western CO survives and advances with their opening round playoff road win over Central Washington yesterday afternoon (11/22/25) by a score of 27-20. Western CO ran the ball for 140 yards and 2 TDs and passed the ball for another 196 yards and 2 more TDs. Three stats that stick out and had a big impact in the Mountaineers’ win were: 1) Western CO played a disciplined game, committing only 2 penalties for a total of 20 yards. I’ll say it, Ricky’s horse collar tackle was one of the worst calls I’ve seen all year. Thus, in my book, the Mountaineers really committed just 1 penalty for 5 yards. 2) Western CO’s punt coverage was phenomenal. The Mountaineers held CWU to only 11 yards on 5 punt return attempts for a nominal average of just 2.2 yards. 3) Western CO won the overall time of possession battle, including winning that battle in every quarter except the 2nd. Leading Western CO to the win were: 🏈 Drew Nash, 14 Cmps on 26 Atts for 192 Yds & 2 passing TDs plus 47 rushing yards & a rushing TD; 🏈 Quinn Bailey, 12 Carries for 65 Yds & a TD plus 2 Recs for another 34 Yds; 🏈 Caden Measner, 4 Recs for 50 Yds; 🏈 Joshua Dixon, 1 Rec for 41 Yds & a TD; 🏈 Kade Musser, 11 Tackles (4 Solo & 7 Ast) with 1.5 TFLs; 🏈 Kaden Stewart, 9 Tackles (3 Solo & 6 Ast) with 2.5 TFLs; 🏈 Kylan Wilson, 6 Tackles (2 Solo & 4 Ast); & 🏈 Ricky Freymond, 6 Tackles (1 Solo & 5 Ast). Western CO will be hosting another Lone Star Conference foe, UT Permian Basin, in the Regional Semifinals next Saturday at 1:00 PM (MT).
