I'd forgotten about this event, where Laurie Penny got her arse deservedly handed to her after she made an unprovoked personal attack on David Starkey. I expect it was about this time that she started suffering from PTSD.

Breached but not "intentional" Members of the production team monitoring in an outside broadcast vehicle said they did not hear or recognise the word... Investigators accepted their account, agreeing the word "was extremely indistinct, to the point where it might well not have been recognised". But we heard it...

Now the UK has set a standard I look forward to @ShabanaMahmood banning Tommy Robinson and his racist marches in the near future. You ban one. You ban ALL.

@veroandroman @NJM71 There is no contract ...the uk state pension is a welfare benefit, dependant on qualifying years ...NI contributions are one of a number of ways of getting qualifying years.

@iantaylor18 @NJM71 If you go on the HMRC app or website, it clearly states that your state pension is linked to how many years NIC you have paid. That's a contract. FACT: It's only a benefit if you haven't paid enough NIC and therefore become eligible for pension credits (benefits).

This again. It's not the responsibility of younger generations to fund state pension benefits = to a "living wage" for retired people. Current pensioners didn't do it, nor did they fund a triple lock. Regardless, people can't expect others to fund 100% of their retirement.
Sensible Simon@simonwatt85

The National Living Wage is right now, £12.21 per hour. In a 35 hour week you will earn £427.35 so in a year it’s £22,222 Presumably they call it a living wage because that gives you enough to live on. A pensioner gets £10,000 less than that. Greedy blighters.

@Milo_Edwards Still its a start . There is loads of stuff which need stops and cut and re-means tested. The welfare budget >tax income . Something has to give.

“Tucker reads the symptoms well enough. It is the remedy he reaches for that gives cause for alarm. He watches the Arab Gulf states project confidence onto the world stage and mistakes what was renounced for what was retained. The skylines are real, the sovereign wealth funds are real, the global ambition is real. What he gets wrong is what produced them. Tucker sees this vitality and attributes it to Islamic identity, to some civilizational coherence the secular West has abandoned. He has the causation exactly backwards. The Gulf states are thriving precisely because they retreated from Sharia, not because they embraced it.” Tucker Carlson: You've praised a culture of genocide and terror. dailymail.co.uk/debate/article…

@iantaylor18 @NJM71 The main source for data is Eurostat - it says the UK is somewhere between 15 and 20% lower than an EU average that is dragged down by Eastern European countries where cost of living is far lower

@NJM71 The state pension is not a benefit, it’s an entitlement. The level of pension entitlement is based on the number of years you contribute. The state pension is not comparable to a living wage, it’s actually one of the worst state pensions across Europe.

@NJM71 We had a contract with state We pay insurance to guarantee a pension on retirement. Young people arent "funding our retirement" - the state is simply meeting its contractual obligations x.com/RuthMBettie/st…

@exRAF_Al @stevenson_les Exactly so! Here is Part 3 of The National Insurance Act 1946. It outlines that pension contributions will be placed into a National Insurance Fund. It is not the fault of current pensioners if successive Governments have mismanaged this fund since 1946.
