“Wait for your tumour to grow” that’s what SHA told a patient after specialists recommended urgent surgery. If medical experts say it's time, on what cruel, bureaucratic basis does SHA override them? This is a callous, senseless, and life-threatening decision @MOH_Kenya

The Financing Accelerator Network for NCDs (FAN)’s landscape analysis of practices and challenges in the sub-Saharan Africa region reveals that many health systems do not prioritise cost-effective (primary and community-based) NCD interventions, such as screening, early diagnosis, and preventive care. Funding is allocated to high-cost, hospital-based curative treatments rather than preventive or early-stage interventions. AFIDEP’s Dr Jackson Otieno joined global leaders at #WHA78 to spotlight the need for sustainably financed health systems that address the growing burden of #NonCommunicableDiseases, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). His submissions at the Assembly drew from the just released report by the Financing Accelerator Network for NCDs (FAN), “Health Financing for Noncommunicable Diseases: Landscape Analysis of Practices and Challenges in the Sub-Saharan Africa Region”. The report reveals that many countries allocate fewer resources to NCDs than to communicable diseases. A financing gap of over 90% exists for NCDs, and close to 60% of NCD spending is out-of-pocket. FAN is an initiative established via a technical partnership between Access Accelerated and the World Bank, in close cooperation with Results for Development, to build a growing coalition of global and local organisations in support of improving sustainable financing for NCDs in LMICs. AFIDEP serves as the Accelerator for Sub-Saharan Africa. @ncdalliance @WBG_Health @results4dev @ncdalliance @roseoronje

This afternoon, Access Accelerated, @PATHtweets, @CoalitionNcd & @novonordisk convened leaders at #WHA78 to tackle NCD financing. Indonesia’s Health Minister Sadikin set a powerful tone, while efforts from @mohgovgh, @MOH_Kenya & @MedAccessUK highlighted a bold way forward.
