I will rephrase the exact experiment in clear, legible terms: Imagine you’re a chinese factory worker after a long day shoveling coal. You can exit via the stairs and go home safely to your family, or you can jump down a chute feeding directly into the trash compactor, where you will be trapped to die painfully. However, if over 50% of workers jump down the chute, the compactor will jam and no one who jumped down dies. You can’t see which route your fellow workers have taken due to all the coal smoke, but the stairs and chute are clearly labelled for everyone. Do you take the stairs or the chute?

An unhealthy psyche frames themselves as healthy via self righteousness anger at others that are different from themselves via a primitive psychological defense known as splitting, which projects their own badness onto their environment and sees themselves in idealized terms (good, beautiful, pure, true) and feels disgust toward those that they can’t control. Many such cases.

The funny thing is that a healthy psyche is able to tolerate difference.
