From day one, the promise—and the business proposition—of @TheFP was simple: We would marry the quality of the old world to the freedom of the new. We would seek the truth and tell it plainly. And we would treat readers like adults capable of making their own choices.
So many people told us this was no longer possible. That the premise of a media company built on trust rather than partisanship was, at best, a relic from the past—and, at worst, a fantasy that never was. That the internet killed journalism. That there simply weren’t enough Americans out there in search of media driven by honesty, independence, and integrity.
Our readers proved them wrong. Our subscribers demonstrated that there’s a market for honest journalism. And they’ve given us a mandate to pursue that mission from an even bigger platform.

@Shwinnabego @JaiDolwani JD, what brands can you share that have had success going your route? You can get anything done affordablly, but that doesn’t mean it’s good or resonates. I do know there are growth hacked ecomm brands that make $, but can they ever enter culture and really become household?

Agree that the critical idea here is: "They need to validate the product and messaging before spending anywhere CLOSE to that amount of money on identity, packaging, website, etc."
I'm not recommending that brands should go this route btw — I've made many videos on running lean + testing messaging pre-launch and why you should actually think hard about distro first before launching something.
However, not knowing what the process or resourcing looks like for when you do want to bring on external resources to grow or upscale the business is where there are issues — especially with founders who don't have the skills themselves to execute. Better to go in eyes wide open than get half-way there and realize you can't keep going

I have a lot of respect for Ashwinn, but some of these costs for a NEW brand are absolutely ridiculous:
- $10K - $150K for Brand Identity and Packaging Design
- $20K - $100K for Web Design and Development
- $20K for Art Direction and Creative Assets
This is the Casper-esque strategy of hemorrhaging money that only leads to failure.
Instead, stay within these ranges:
- $5K-$10K for brand identity and packaging design
- <$3K for Web Design an Development (use a theme)
- <$3K for Art Direction and Creative Assets
