Remember: in the gospels, Jesus got the most upset with those who use religion as a tool of oppression and self serving power. You don't see Jesus get upset with anyone for showing too much forgiveness, giving too much mercy, having too much generosity or loving others too much.

Ending the death penalty should be a bipartisan issue based on cost alone. • A study in Maryland found that it costs about $37 million per execution. As of July 1st 2024, there were 2,213 death row inmates in the United States, which means it could conceivably cost taxpayers $81,881,000,000 to execute death row inmates in the coming years. That’s $82 billion dollars we could be using to help people instead of kill them. • In California, it costs $90,000 more per person per year to house inmates on death row than those who aren’t. • A 2017 study found that the average cost of just a trial for a death penalty case was 3.2x ($110,000) more than a non-death penalty case. It doesn’t have to be this way. We need to put a stop to this madness.

@ministrymisfit @NikaylaReize Yes, that's covered in his saying 'love one another as I have loved you'. The washing of the feet being an amazing example lowering of self and the serving of others. All of it is love.

You're lecturing on the Christian doctrine of Salvation to students from an entirely different cultural and religious context and they ask, "what are the benefits of becoming Christian?" What is your answer?

@ministrymisfit @NikaylaReize Well the full quote is love one another as I have loved you. It is in the context of the washing of the feet, and just before his sacrifice. I don't know how we can do more.

In many ways I think it is actually the Old Law under the New Covenant. The Old Law was summed up with Love God, Love Neighbor. Jesus takes it further in Matthew 5 & the rest of His teachings, but the disciples now are told to take it even further. It’s not enough to just love neighbor as yourself, but now disciples of Jesus are to love others as Christ loved us. Now it’s no longer about our feelings on matters, but how God views His image bearers. The law is still there, but now we see it through Jesus.

@ministrymisfit @NikaylaReize In 3/4 Gospels we get the last supper & the new covenant. In John we get the washing of the feet & the new commandment. The new commandment isn't #11, it is the new law of the new covenant.

Listen carefully to Trump. He says “I’m not Christian.” For you who desperately wanted to believe he is a Christian, here is his declaration. He’s not.

Jesus actually has something to say about the belief that a woman’s value lies primarily in producing children. When someone praises him and blesses his mother in those terms, he responds: “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

@paininc and when we make minor changes to the rules to recognize the existence of cyclists then safety goes up and rule breaking goes down. I'm thinking of the Idaho Stop experience.

The irony here is that research shows that people in motor vehicles break the law at a higher rate than cyclists or pedestrians.

One lesson that we Christians have not learned in the last +2,000 years is that Jesus had no political control over the Roman Empire and he still changed the world. We keep trying to change the world the way the Roman Empire did instead of the way Jesus did.
