@simonsarris This is why I have a wife and my job. Just called up the number I got and asked for a position.

The corollary is you simply need to do things no one else is willing to do. Find a relationship by actually pursuing someone. Walk in the front door to get a job. A bespoke life is still open to everyone. The number of people that want to put in the footwork is lower than ever
meatball times@meatballtimes

hiring is impossible BECAUSE it's so easy to apply finding a relationship is impossible BECAUSE new dates are a swipe away getting into university is hard BECAUSE you can CommonApp apply to 50 at once convenience is washing away friction that actually carried a lot of signal

@powerbottomdad1 What you need is a heavy straw hat. This is a solved problem. RETVRN I have a matching one. This inspired my son and before we leave the house we get our hats together. You gotta model the behavior you want. My son loves to wear his hat and sometimes even sleeps in it.

@simonsarris @rohindhar Yeah I’m mostly on +$1,000 sq ft houses and it’s all engineered like 3/16” wood veneer engineered flooring. I prefer it honestly to solid 3/4” flooring. A lot of benefits.

@rohindhar Do you mean LVP? For 99% of buyers, even in the luxury segment, won't be able to tell engineered hardwood is not "full hardwood" (it is real hardwood, on top of layers) Lots of high end architects prefer engineered hardwood simply because it won't warp like full wood.

If you’re doing a high end house flip I don’t think you can use engineered hardwood floors anymore Gotta go with the real thing

@AustinTunnell @UrbanCourtyard Working in Florida we do this all the time. Seems like CMU block wall is a great compromise between structural brick and modern efficiency.

I actually really like stucco. But so rarely done well in the US, often because it’s done over a wood substrate and has to have a bunch of control joints because of the movement. While we do mostly brick right now, I want to do more concrete block structures (still super durable) and then stucco over.

Periodic reminder that stucco is low cost and looks fantastic on attached buildings (but for some reason looks tacky on large stand-alone buildings)

@NickTurco919 100% it isn’t an issue. It’s superficial. Stick frame houses with modern lumber will last 100 years if you keep a roof over it. It speaks to the beauty of wood. Fantastic material even degraded it works well

@sivori SA is the architecture capital of Texas and it’s not even close. The citizenry values beauty much more than most cities. I don’t know why but that is the case. Perhaps it’s retained more Iberian/European culture than we might expect.

Took a few days off social media. An information diet of old books does make you feel and think better. Old books are like memetic anti-biotics. They clean up damaged and degraded thinking. Will be off here for the next week

The secret to a mom being happy is that they are with their baby all the time but also have breaks for their alone time, also they should work a cute 200k job but not more than 3 days a week, and they should spend all their time with their baby but not too much of their time

Enjoyed The Product with some good friends, both brilliant people, though I could not contribute much to the conversation having lost my voice. The Big Arch was tasty 8/10. Would eat again. I think more brands should do limited time meme food drops. In the attention economy, seduce my attention. It also gives an occasion for friends to get excited about something that they would normally not care about. Life as game or spectacle.

@Empty_America It’s extremely odd. Theirs always an attempt to bring one of these doohickey’s to the US. But Americans won’t pay a cent for any of the benefits of a solid heavy structure.

German house building is fascinating, they MUST have it be massive, tangibly heavy, etc. They also make great use of massive terra-cotta type structural "tiles" of over 12" thick. New homes often have walls like a fortress.
VanRaalte, Agro-Nationalist@AgroNationalism

We are tired of stick built, toxic insulation, drywall with toxic paint, asphalt homes. Lets get creative and get young men building new styles of homes. The money will come. Have faith.

@Pronatalism Mother Goose is a linguistic reprogramming psycho active drug. The rhyme and language captivates all children and adults alike. So strange and magical Rub a dub dub three men in a tub!

If you could only have one book for children under five, it probably should be a good anthology of Mother Goose nursery rhymes. There are many charming versions at wildly different price points. The one we enjoy most often is Lavender’s Blue illustrated by Harold Jones.

Marcello is in desperate pursuit of something in the city, but he doesn't know what. The movie starts at a time when he "has" ambitions, but its obvious its "had" by that point, he can't bring himself to even talk about them any more.

watched La Dolce Vita (1960) a few nights ago, which is mostly about various forms of self-pitying and desperately triyng to find satisfaction in post-war Rome. But I came to the same conclusion, the city (and attendant gossip) acts as a sort of daycare for adults.
Cree@creebeauvoir

convinced that everyone who is afraid to have children because it’s 'tiring' or 'time consuming' is largely due to the fact they live in a city. cities are playgrounds for adults. move to nature, your child will never be bored & you will have more time.
