📣 New paper alert! One of the most exciting projects we've done in recent years is now out on BioRxiv: "An Asgard archaeon from a modern analog of ancient microbial mats". Glimpse into early complex life! ❄️🦠 🔬🧬 biorxiv.org/content/10.1.... A thread...

@PalliThordarson ‘not for profit’ and other publishers fancy journals are recently 2-5 times the cost of their already expensive regulars 🙄 QC/peer review could be managed most efficiently through preprint servers. But they must stay public or have mechanisms to stop prestige that drives $$ 🤑

Computer science is leading the way. Let's abandon journals, move everything to preprints, and evolve from there with some sort QC system that picks the good/interesting preprints (computer science does this via conferences).
Steadtler@SteadtlerA58435

Journals are dead. Every field need to abandon them. the peer-review process was always about selecting articles, not verifying them. Computer science has shown the way: open-prepublication (arxiv), allow the whole field to review and discuss the pre-published papers, then conferences select the most interesting one for live presentation and discussion with the peers.

I’m SO happy to share the preprint of the final chapter of my PhD This work started way back in 2018 so it feels very special and bit surreal to see it all together 🥹 It’s a super cool story about two CetZs coordinating their functions to control cell morphogenesis 1/3

Excited to share our latest work. We developed a modified TraDIS appropriate for host cell infections where bacterial yields are limiting and applied it to a stage-resolved human bladder culture model of UTI @AIMI_UTS journals.asm.org/doi/full/10.11…

EXCITED to announce the preprint of our work on a NEW Cell division protein (CdpA) in FtsZ-based division system in Haloarchaea. Thanks for the collaborative efforts of our amazing team. @vinayaa_shinde Dalong Hu, Zhuang Xu, @BillSoderstrom @kmichie13 @iduggin @AIMI_UTS

Inspired by @iduggin and @S_Ithurbide (see their paper: bit.ly/45OAzIk), we decided to test different FPs in our lab (and new ones) by expressing FtsZ1 fusions in the ∆ftsZ1 background and observe cell morphology (funcionality_, brightness and photostability [2/5]
