I think most of us want this. A home in the hills, surrounded by trees, quiet enough to hear yourself think. Not a mansion. Just something honest and well built, by the time life starts to make sense in your thirties.
This is Ekam. A house that had been abandoned in the hills of Amboori, Trivandrum, Kerala. ARK Architecture Studio did not tear it down. They walked in and asked what it could still become.
A verandah that opens into the forest. Terracotta roof tiles. Exposed timber rafters. Cane chairs. Patterned floor tiles. A river nearby and mountains behind it. 1,080 square feet that feels like enough.
The materials are not expensive. The land did most of the work. What made this possible was simply the decision to work with what was already there instead of starting over.
We have land like this in Africa. We have the materials. We keep starting over when we should be building on what we already have.
More photos in the comments.

Today marks exactly one year since the unfathomable tragedy that shattered the family of Palestinian pediatrician Dr. Alaa al-Najjar.
On May 23, 2025, while Dr. al-Najjar was on duty treating patients at the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, an Israeli terrorist airstrike completely destroyed her family home in the Qizan an-Najjar neighborhood.
The blast sparked a massive fire, killing nine of her children, ranging in age from just 7 months to 12 years old.
Her husband, Dr. Hamdi al-Najjar, suffered severe brain damage in the attack and succumbed to his wounds a week later.
Her 11-year-old son, Adam, survived with severe bone and nerve damage, later evacuating to Italy with his mother for life-saving surgeries.
A year later, we honor the memory of the al-Najjar family and the tens of thousands of children and their family and we demand accountability for Israel’s terrorism.
The names of her 9 slaughtered kids are: Yahia, Rakan, Luqman, Raslan, Jubran, Ev, Rivan, Sidra, and Sidin.

Just a few screenshots of local coverage of Henley from when the agreement was first signed. Everyone can see for themselves the low-quality journalism that was pushed out.

“Collateral damage and human shields” is actually “murder children and innocent civilians”

@jubraanshareef This was in the talks behind the scenes even during ibu solih sarkar. As you said both parties have stakes in this.

@jubraanshareef @MohamedNasheed @amanhaleemmv @MaahilMohamed @LailaAhmeds @mjunayd @AubreyBelford Nasheed is always trying to privatize public assets. And he is very pro IMF and World Bank. These are all pathways of our assets being bought and controlled by the likes of Black Rock and Black Stone etc. This is how modern colonialism is done.

Alors on l'a oubliée. Ou on n'a jamais su.
Sidra avait 7 ans.
Elles montrent.
