Genuine question: At what point do Manchester United fans collectively unfollow Samuel Luckhurst?

@LaurensJulien Takes more than talent. Takes coaching and desire. France folded like they always do- they have lost 12 and drawn 1 of the WC games where they are behind at HT!!!

As bad a first half as in the 2022 final against Argentina. Sloppy, nervous, no rhythm, Olise and Dembélé absent. Plus the silly penalty given away and Saliba’s injury. Terrible. Spain didn’t even have to try that hard.

@AdamJoseph Kone is not a ground coverage guy. Also injuries, definitely no. Sangare also not sure right profile. To me its Bouaddi or Scott

Where I would like Manchester United's 3rd CM to land. Carlos Baleba, Ayyoub Bouaddi, Mamadou Sangare, Manu Kone. PL ready shopping in Brighton? Huge upside play on the 18 year old? Sign the CM who costs double in 1-2 years? Injury risk reward move on the Frenchman?

Back tonight from US. Great 5 weeks. Best tournament I’ve covered. Won’t miss the 405 in LA but Southern California and Seattle so good. Fingers crossed for Wednesday

@scarletreport Its not just about numbers equal depth its about how large player base results in more star quality players to make the difference in knockout games

There is a reason why only a few big nations have won the World Cup: a deep pool of quality players to choose from. A surprise team can win the Champions League with a solid starting lineup + 3-5 good squad players, provided they rest their key players in domestic league games. This was the case with Porto/Monaco in 2004 for instance. But in the World Cup, after a long, grueling club season and with games coming one after the other with just 4-5 days in between, squad depth is vital. Nations like Switzerland 🇨🇭 , Morocco 🇲🇦, Belgium 🇧🇪 and Norway 🇳🇴 have strong starting lineups but only a handful of game changers on the bench. Moreover, these nations’ performances are also extremely dependent on injuries. Morocco was toothless against France because we were missing threatening players (Saibari and Abde most notably) through injury. On the other hand France, England, Argentina or Spain can field 3 different lineups without losing much in terms of quality. Here is how many registered professional male players each of these nations has according to FIFA (2023-2024): 🇪🇸 Spain: 8,560 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England: 5,582 🇦🇷 Argentina: 3,613 🇫🇷 France: 2,906 Belgium, Morocco, Norway and Switzerland? Up to 5 times less than France. When you factor in the fact that England and Spain have the best leagues in the world and that players from the Argentinian and French leagues often move to the world’s biggest clubs, then it becomes clear that these nations win in both the size and quality of the pool of players they can choose from. In a one off game, Japan can beat England, Morocco can beat Spain, and Colombia can beat France. But over the course of a tournament, Japan, Morocco and Colombia will eventually run out of steam before England, Spain or France.

Someone should pay 40m for Kone and worry ‘bout it later. Most obvious plug & play Prem midfielder. Better pound for pound value than the majority of the market too.

@AdamJoseph I don’t understand this narrative on Morocco as world class or elite. They are a good team who play as a unit but their talent is no where near the likes of Spain, France etc

Switch off even a little bit & France slit your throat with no mercy. They are so much better than everyone at the World Cup it is unfair. Morocco are a world class team & they look lost. Nobody is stopping France & if they somehow do it'll one of the biggest upsets this century.

@fuadyabz23 He's obv training to be a winger. That's how Carrick used him, sees him as and tbh where he's better at. We should just focus on buying a LB.

@htomufc Rice doesn't play deep anymore and his body is struggling to keep pace with all the games where we tries to do everything. Arsenal haven't figured out Zubi or MLS or the right Rice partner as a result

I worry who the long legged midfielder is going to be if we can’t get Tchouameni, which is a big possibility. It’s obvious we need a lockdown CM + a passing CM, there are plenty of passers around but the lack of anchors out there is an issue. Arsenal are so lucky they got Rice. I don’t see anyone else out there right now with this skillset, barring Tchouameni.

I’m all for prudence and control because I know United need it, but this approach is nonsense. United need a top Casemiro replacement. He is that. He doesn’t want to leave Madrid. So you sell the move to him by saying he needs to earn less? Surely he’d just go somewhere else?
utdreport@utdreport

#mufc made it clear to Aurélien Tchouaméni’s camp that the only way he can join #mufc is by accepting a different salary than he earns at Real Madrid. Another issue is that United have yet to receive the green light from Real Madrid to begin negotiations [@FabrizioRomano]

That is a shocking, idiotic tackle from Jarell Quansah. Red card every single time. Made the decision for VAR & the referee. There's 40+ minutes left here. Could be so costly.

A penny for Bruno Fernandes’ thoughts considering he stayed due to Utd’s promised ambition and then proceeded to have the season of his life to get Utd back in the Champions League?
Laurie Whitwell@lauriewhitwell

Man United were prepared to go to £80m + £5m for Mateus Fernandes, with some expectation he would join. But Tottenham’s guaranteed fee + wages swung talks. Significant signing to miss out on. #MUFC onto other targets. Free to read, by @mjcritchley ⬇️ nytimes.com/athletic/74210…
