My wife is in Peru for two weeks so I’m on my own for lunch. I was at the grocery store buying my food and the cashier said “big party tonight with all this junk food?” I played along, too embarrassed to admit it was all for me.

Scoop w/ @hollyotterbein Josh Shapiro secretly helped the Republican state treasurer's 2024 bid after their Dem opponent criticized Shapiro as a potential VP pick, close Shapiro ally Bob Brooks said. Brooks said he misspoke. We have the audio: axios.com/2026/05/03/jos…

@ChrisCillizza “Oppo researchers dream” — you realize that talking that way about politics in a serious manner is what’s wrong with American politics right? Just imagining an overpaid broken person getting giddy as they try to tear down someone’s life.

@BriannaWu The group that ran Biden was the group that put up Mills. This is coming from the progressive/ anti establishment wing. Not sure why you’d equate those as the same. The party has no identity but people are fighting to try to give it one.

As a trans woman, I understand that if the Democrats don’t win 2028 I probably won’t have a future in this country. Which is why the judgment we are showing running someone with A LITERAL NAZI TATOO is so extremely concerning. We knew about this months ago. There was plenty of time to find a non-Nazi candidate. But we did nothing. The Bernie faction won. And it’s another signal to normal Americans that we’ve lost our minds. At some point, we have to face reality. Our party cannot make coherent tactical decisions. It’s why we ran Biden when every poll showed she could not win, and it’s why we refuse to course correct after losing. I need us to be less suicidal.

Maine, let’s send an oyster farmer to the U.S. Senate—and kick out Susan Collins.

@moore398 @LGBTQPete Not sure we listened to the same podcast. He goes into detail about time over seas and, his years of deep disillusionment, and his journey to finding community back in Maine. Or perhaps he just doesn’t resonate with you. That’s okay. But he’s resonating with some of us.

@ifthebootfitz @LGBTQPete Yes, and Platner says NOTHING other than "I'm here to talk about the issues." He DOES NOT TALK ABOUT HIS PAST. He's not addressing it. If he wants to be believed, if he wants to win in the general and survive the drubbing Collins will give, he has to be open about himself.

If I lived in Maine I would vote for Platner over Collins & I hope he beats her. The concerns people have are not because of an algorithm. His background and behaviors are concerning. Instead of dismissing it, his supporters need to explain why he’s still better than Collins.
Jon Favreau@jonfavs

Graham Platner isn’t just our best and only chance to beat Susan Collins, he’s a good, decent man who’s struggled and grown and is always trying to do better. I hope everyone with reservations takes a little time to get to know the real life version of him, not what the algorithm throws in our faces. Clearly, that’s what so many people in Maine have done - from all different walks of life and political persuasions.

@moore398 @LGBTQPete The tweet is actually critical of Favrots tweet, which it would be unreasonable to expect the answers to your questions in a single tweet format. Favrot asks people to get to know Platner which does make your questions relevant. I encourage u to listen to the Stewart interview.

@ifthebootfitz @LGBTQPete People who "struggle and grow and try to do better" often TELL US what they're doing different, how they changed, WHY they changed, how they make amends. Platner has done none of that. He just whines and says "The Establishment is picking on me. This is irrelevant!"

@admcrlsn He’s also saying people told him mamdani is where to win everywhere when most left discourse agrees that candidates must be locally focused but that mamdani’s authenticity and grassroots work are things to aspire towards.

@burgessev Timing matters. But it’s surface level not structural. The voters of Maine are just not that into her anymore.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I also think there was an expectation at some point that an outside group would rain down on Platner, but Mills was left to run the negative ads and didn't have the amount of money needed to really prosecute it on the airwaves
Jacob Rubashkin@JacobRubashkin

Politics is 90% timing — and Mills’ timing was off from the beginning. Her decision to wait until the end of the year to get in the race, rather than jump in over the summer like Sherrod Brown or Roy Cooper, set her up for failure.

@Willibab89 @depression2019 It’s logical when you consider the choice in a vaccum and at an individual level. But choices aren’t in vaccums. They reach to the largest questions of the human project and existence. That complicates the logic and also makes it much more subjective.

@depression2019 It is the logical choice for survival yes, now tell me. Do you find that most humans make their decisions based on pure logic? You're going into this knowing a lot of people (many of which are normal good people) will push blue.

@GaetenD @davidshor I don’t think it’s up to us if it’s practical or moral as a society. That’s to how culture perceives the question. But it being more practical than moral individually seems perfectly reasonable. However there’s an ethical question about the decision to take it practical. Complex!

@davidshor I still think this is more of a practical dilemma than a moral one. Is it likely that over 4B people globally will risk their lives in a secret vote? If not, then pressing red is the logical choice.

@GaetenD @ifthebootfitz 3. This is why I characterized this thought experiment as an empathy test. I meant that in a boring technical way. Can you predict how others, including those situated differently from you, would behave? I was not suggesting one approach was less empathic and therefore inferior.

@GaetenD @SandrewFinance I mean we are deep in hypothetical land as it is lol so it’s more create a hypothetical where world leaders get so tightly on message + polling is like 95/5 and stuff. Anyways I appreciate the back and forth! My mind has been opened to new aspects. Still want that blue campaign!

@ifthebootfitz @SandrewFinance Yes, but I don't think that level of certainty is possible given the specifics of the scenario because 1. polls will always skew blue (virtue signaling + no consequences) 2. accurate polling at a global level is near impossible and 3. there is no enforcement mechanism.
