The newly established Business and Accounting Department at MIC was formally launched by Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke TD on 25 March at MIC Thurles. Minister Burke, in his address to over 100 attendees at the event, commented that with 5,000 students and close to 2,000 graduates per year, MIC was making a significant contribution to the region in terms of higher education, industry and research partnerships—all creating a boost to the economy and local communities. The Irish Federation of University Teachers (IFUT) is pleased to confirm that, following a ballot of our members, the proposal to resolve our dispute with BIMM Dublin has been accepted by a massive majority. @RobMcNamaraTU, IFUT Assistant General Secretary, stated: "This outcome is a huge victory for staff, won through determination, bravery, and collective action. It would not have been possible without the extraordinary solidarity shown by students, political representatives, and fellow trade unions. TU Dublin's role should also be acknowledged in resolving the dispute." The students in BIMM also played a critical role, standing with their lecturers, organising protests, and making clear that quality education depends on fair conditions for staff. The strong support from political parties and the wider trade union movementsent a powerful message that precarious employment in higher education must be challenged at every turn. McNamara continued: "This dispute has sent a clear and unambiguous message to the entire sector: IFUT will not tolerate the casualisation of academic work, nor will we stand idly by while institutions attempt to undermine job security." The outcome at BIMM is a victory for all those in higher education fighting against precarity, and IFUT reaffirms its commitment to ensuring fair, stable, and secure employment for all academic staff in Ireland

Press Release: Proposal Reached-BIMM Dublin – Strike Suspended Pending Member Ballot Dublin, 18/02/25– The Irish Federation of University Teachers (IFUT) is pleased to announce that, following constructive discussions, a proposal has been developed to address the concerns of our members. In recognition of these developments, the planned industrial action has been suspended to allow our members to review and vote on the proposed terms. Key elements of the proposal include: · Pay Increases: An increase in hourly rates for all Hourly Paid Lecturers (HPLs) and an upward adjustment in Senior Lecturer salaries, ensuring fair and consistent remuneration across all teaching staff. · Job Security: A firm commitment to no compulsory redundancies, providing assurance of continued employment for current staff. · Loyalty Bonus: A loyalty payment for those opting to conclude their tenure which will be paid in addition statutory entitlement. · Retention of Current Terms and Conditions: Employees are given the option to retain their existing contracts with the same terms and conditions, ensuring stability and continuity in their roles. · Associate Lecturer Role: The freelance, self-employed Associate Lecturer model will not be pursued. Details of the proposal will be shared with IFUT members promptly, and a ballot will be conducted in the coming days determine acceptance.
