@FordneyEnergy They haven’t yet been sued into bankruptcy because of a fire they started or aren’t necessarily afraid of that happening

I spent most of my day reporting on public-safety power shut-offs across CA, and something I was told stuck with me: only investor-owned utilities utilize them. I wonder why that might be? Does anyone know of public utilities or municipal utilities that use them? Maybe there are.

@drgurner @garrytan Would you view having a telephone to call someone as a technical crutch? Email? Where do you draw the line where technology can/should facilitate more engagement between people?

@garrytan The reliance on something is the challenge...and while it might empower some to begin, the reliance is the problem. Like using alcohol to feel comfortable socially, it becomes a crutch - not a path to real freedom, sense of internal power or autonomy. It's technical dependence.

@baldridgecpa Don’t forget being able to monetize the S-Corp owner’s portion of the joint 338(h)(10) election in the event of an S-Corp sale!

Very profitable S-Corps can optimize for QBI, saving a 20% deduction on their business earnings. S-Corps in certain high tax states can elect pay state taxes out of the entity, preserving the SALT deduction that was done away with in the TCJA of 2017.

The number one question I get as a CPA from business owners: Should I open up an LLC? Choosing the right business entity costs a bit, but can save you millions over the life of your business. Let's dig in:

@Noahpinion @RamonDarioIT Noah- momentum is what is dangerous (mass times velocity). A semi going 20 mph much more dangerous than a bike going 20 mph

@JohnSmillie42 It's way less abundant than CH4 (to move as a gas) and requires way more pressure to store as liquid (vs. propane)

has anyone ever tried sitting in the park outside the Outside Lands gates near the main stage instead of buying a $250 ticket for one act I wanna see tomorrow night? Can you actually hear it well or is it not worth it

@pslohmann @roblabonne Price in P/E is just the price of the equity though. I had always assumed the Price in Cap Rate was the entire capital cost (enterprise value) of the real estate asset? Is it just the equity?

P/E ratio (used in public markets) is the inverse of a Cap rate (used in real estate). $100,000 earnings $1,250,000 price P/E ratio = 12.5 (1.25m / 100k) Cap rate = 8% (100k / 1.25m)

@JohnSmillie42 Was at the national solar thermal test facility at Sandia in aughts. Nice thing ab concentrated solar *for H2* (thermolysis) is that there aren't the transmission constraints that killed it for electricity. And all the giga projects are going to go into high DNI areas regardless

@Isolveissues I'm so glad this thread exists so I don't have to write it. You missed that whatever **city-powering-steam** energy she actually was dissipating **with a freaking hose** would have flashed into steam and melted her face

The Silo on Apple TV clearly didn’t have an engineer consult. Major ridiculous items on the steam turbine.

@emptywheel Fair enough, and I have not been to Alpena, specifically, just that region. One of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen was in St. Ignace. Michigan is a wildly underrated state

@JohnSmillie42 @DELicht_ful @brendanpierpont 41.5% is more realistic. You can also trade emissions for efficiency. If you can accept higher NOx then you can get better efficiency. That's basically what the VW TDI scandal was all about. They would turn off the nox limiting systems to boost performance and efficiency

@Nuclearjunkie @DELicht_ful @JohnSmillie42 @brendanpierpont A key difference: the control authority/reaction timing for a diesel cycle comes from injecting fuel, creating a stratified charge and a flame front (higher peak T and thermal NOx), the LGen doesn't have a flame, so the peak temp is lower but the compression ratio is still high
