Under the popular Exhibit of the Month series, a traditional shadow puppet made of leather belonging to the Thakar community of Pinguli, Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, is on display for the entire month of May 2026. The puppet represents the character of Lord Ram. This single-object exhibition has been curated by Smt Rashmi Shukla, Assistant Keeper. The exhibit is inaugurated by Prof Parag Dubey, Management Faculty, NITTTR, Bhopal. During his visit, he also toured the indoor exhibition Veethi Shakul along with officials of IGRMS.

The Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS), Bhopal, is organizing an International Course on “Curatorship & Rethinking Community Engagement” with the theme “Communities – Collections – Connections.” Ji The programme aims to explore the evolving role of museums in building meaningful relationships with communities and strengthening inclusive museum practices. This international course will provide participants with an opportunity to understand contemporary approaches to curatorship and community engagement in museums. Through lectures, case studies, and interactive sessions, participants will critically examine participatory curatorial practices, museum education, and outreach strategies. The course will also introduce practical frameworks such as Object-Based Learning, collections accessibility, and First Voice approaches, encouraging participants to develop inclusive and community-oriented museum practices within diverse institutional and regional contexts. The course will be conducted in three phases from 6 July to 22 August 2026. The first phase will be held online from 6 July to 3 August 2026, followed by a preparatory assignment from 4 to 15 August 2026. The final phase will be an in-person intensive programme at IGRMS, Bhopal from 16 to 22 August 2026, providing participants with hands-on experience and direct engagement with museum collections and community practices. Interested candidates may submit their applications by 31 May 2026, while the final selection list will be announced on 15 June 2026. Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, Bhopal inaugurated a special exhibit under its “Object of the Month” series featuring the traditional shadow leather puppet “Ram” from Maharashtra today at 3:00 PM. The program was graced by the Chief Guest,. The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest. On this occasion, the Director of the museum,, welcomed and honored Prof. Parag Dubey with a bouquet and the museum’s memento. During the programme, Dr. Rashmi presented a detailed introduction to the exhibit and shared that the traditional shadow leather puppet “Ram” was collected in 2005 from Pinguli village of Sindhudurg district, Maharashtra. The artifact represents the endangered folk art tradition of the Thakar tribe and is an important example of India’s ancient shadow puppet heritage. She further highlighted that Maharashtra’s “Chamadyachya Bahulya” tradition uses handmade leather puppets and oil-lamp illumination to enact various episodes from the Ramayana through shadow play. On the occasion of International Museum Day 2026, Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS), Bhopal organised a special “Tour to Museums of Bhopal” for the visitors of the city on 17th May 2026. The initiative of Manav Sangrahalaya was conducted to promote awareness and appreciation of museums and cultural institutions among the public. For this free bus tour three buses were arranged by Manav Sangrahalaya for nearly 130 participants from Bhopal, who were taken on a guided visit to some of the prominent museums of the city.
