The leading Israeli scholars of the Holocaust and of genocide - Omer Bartov, Daniel Blatman, Amos Goldberg - all agree that Gaza is a genocide. So do Israel’s top human rights groups Btselem and Physicians for Human Rights-Israel. Give it up with the antisemitism smear.
American Jewish Committee@AJCGlobal

Mayor Mamdani’s repeated use of the “genocide” accusation against Israel is not just wrong - it’s dangerous. It distorts reality and fuels antisemitism at a moment when Jews are already under threat.

Leaders who claim to stand for human rights should not use rhetoric that puts Jewish communities at risk. timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry…

Think about this. Armies of people out there, incentivized by a company hired by politicians to post AI-generated political messaging as if it’s their real, organic thought. Dystopian sci-fi? Nope. Reality. I’m partnering with Canada’s National Observer to share this huge story:

Thank you @iamIqraKhalid, for your commitment to listening and engaging with humanitarian organizations like HCI and evacuees, even under difficult circumstances. Bringing these stories home matters, and Canada has an important role to play in upholding humanitarian principles and ensuring these voices are heard.

We came to listen. We were denied entry. That has not stopped our work. We are continuing to meet with refugees and humanitarian organizations and will bring their stories home with us.

How many commissions, committees, experts, academics & human rights groups? How many voices from the ground in Gaza? How many - all naming, decrying & condemning genocide - will it take? ohchr.org/en/press-relea…

Honoured to join the team at @HCICanada as the first Chief Development Officer. Moving spaces from working on human rights to humanitarian relief—still focused on justice and dignity. Advice, feedback, & (re)connections welcome! Onwards.

Food should never come with gunfire. Over 500 Palestinians have been killed and 4,000 injured under Israel’s militarized distribution scheme in Gaza. This is not a humanitarian response. More than 170 organizations, including @Amnesty, are calling for an end to this deadly system and a return to principled, UN-led humanitarian access.

Along with @Heidi__Matthews, we've done cross-Canada @CBCNews marathon of 25 morning show interviews discussing our #Gaza letter to @MarkJCarney @AnitaAnandMP. Key question I was asked repeatedly: do you think the government will act? My answer: there is no other choice.

Alex Neve@AlexNeve24

In our Open Letter to @MarkJCarney & @AnitaAnandMP, 412 legal, human rights, diplomatic, international affairs, social justice, UN, civil society, faith & labour leaders & experts make it unflinchingly clear: Canada must act to end genocide in #Gaza. Waiting, vacillating, remaining silent and failing or, worse, refusing to act in the face of mounting and incontrovertible evidence of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity can no longer be options for Canada. But it is not enough to simply speak out. Canada must do everything in its power to stop these atrocities and support efforts to bring those responsible to account. That requires immediate action in five priority areas and galvanizing joint measures at next week's #G7Summit: 1. Work actively towards an immediate, permanent ceasefire and the release of all Israeli and Palestinian captives. 2. Insist on full humanitarian access to Gaza in a manner in keeping with core humanitarian principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence, and demand that the Israeli ban on the UN Relief and Works Agency be completely lifted. 3. Publicly support the role of and fully comply with international courts in holding to account those who violate international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory including Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and Israel. 4. Pursue all possible domestic measures, including immediately withdrawing from the free trade agreement between Canada and Israel, imposing sanctions on Israeli leaders and other individuals suspected of involvement in atrocity crimes, initiating investigations into charges of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity under the Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Act (including any Canadians or dual nationals involved in such crimes) with the aim of prosecuting offenders in Canada or other jurisdictions, enforcing a full and comprehensive two-way arms embargo, and stripping charitable status from organizations found to be complicit in crimes under international law. 5. Without further delay, join the 149 states who recognize the State of Palestine and support all efforts for Palestine to be admitted as a full member of the United Nations. We end noting that ... "Prime Minister, there is no question as to which side of history Canada belongs. Because of Canada’s proclaimed “shared values” and close relationship with Israel, Ottawa must spare no effort to bring the genocide in Gaza, and the war crimes and crimes against humanity in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, to an immediate end. Upholding international law is the only avenue through which not only peace, justice and human rights, but the durable, long-term security of Israelis and Palestinians alike will be achieved." alexneve.ca/blog/prime-min…

Today, I met deeply vulnerable Uyghurs who recently arrived in Canada, to safety and security. It was a moving experience after years of advocacy, and the unanimous passage of my motion M-62 in the House of Commons, to resettle 10,000 Uyghurs from third countries. (1/2)

Recommended read by @nickdeardon75 and @shaistaAziz "Only legal action, protests and public pressure – not meetings with uninterested ministers and civil servants – will convince Britain’s government to end its complicity in genocide."
Nick Dearden@nickdearden75

Today I join @shaistaAziz in urging UK NGOs working on Gaza to boycott meetings with the government as long as their complicity in Israel’s genocide continues. 🧵 aljazeera.com/amp/opinions/2…

🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨 Pierre Poilievre team attempts to muzzle journalists at campaign stops Only 4 questions per event allowed, ZERO follow up, journalist asking question chosen in advance by Pierre Poilievre team. No media allowed to travel with Pierre. No media allowed to speak to attendees at events. Sometimes camera/video people physically touched. The Conservatives Party campaign is successfully undermining freedom of the press and voter awareness unfortunately. It’s an old playbook (former Conservative Opposition Leader Stockwell Day in 2000 attempted similar actions in Parliament Hill Media Scrums)

A video found on the mobile phone of a medic—whose body was discovered in a mass grave alongside 15 aid workers killed by Israeli fire in Gaza on March 23—shows that the ambulances and fire trucks they were using were clearly marked and had their emergency lights on when Israeli forces opened fire on them. This revelation contradicts an earlier claim by the Israeli military, which stated earlier this week that its forces did not randomly attack ambulances, and that some vehicles “approached suspiciously without lights or emergency signals toward the troops,” prompting them to open fire. The video was obtained from a senior UN diplomat who requested anonymity. The New York Times has verified the location and date of the footage.
