I wonder if it’s possible to remove genuine growth of certain terms from analysis and show its specific presence w/in academia, for an even sharper picture (tho it may not be worth the lift)

Anyone down w/ lucene syntax? Trying to figure out why an API call using "X Y" returns fewer results than "X+Y". Is this because I'm getting all Y results and whatever has X in it in the 2nd case, and results w/ both X and Y in the 1st?
