Definitely understand that's a mindset many (myself included) can fall to. Then I look at the stark differences between these 2 albums and the feel couldn't be more obvious. Hell, look at the cover. And I actually liked the 2nd album from the UMCs. This was a lot of acts by 94

We probably gotta, at least first or more often, look back at these years as it was at the time and how we felt in the moment. It's revisionist history to lump shit together with factors and legacy or impact that was yet to exist.

Think of it as *reflection. As in reflecting on life. Reflecting on a period, usually a challenging period that you made it through. Or reflecting on your present life, some situation that you’re facing or an epiphany that you’ve recently had.
It’s like taking stock of your life, particularly how you *think about your life and the decisions you make (have made) and *why you make (made) them.
In terms of why you never heard any rapper use that term. Well, actually, you have: *Analyzing*, *did the knowledge*, these are often the rap/slang equivalents to “introspection”…
