Alongside the 356th Session of the @ilo Governing Body, ACTRAV Director Oliver Röpke held a productive meeting today with H.E. Marieme Mint Boidiel Houmeid, Minister of Labour and Public Service of Mauritania, accompanied by H.E. Aicha Vall Verges, Ambassador of Mauritania to the United Nations in Geneva, and her delegation. During the discussion, Oliver Röpke reaffirmed the ILO's commitment to supporting its constituents in advancing decent work, particularly Mauritanian trade unions, and strengthening their role in national efforts through social dialogue. The Minister welcomed enhanced cooperation aimed at reinforcing the institutional capacities of constituents, particularly the most representative trade unions, to better engage in shaping socio-economic policies. Cooperation will continue in key priority areas, including: -advancing formalization efforts, -extending social protection, -promoting social dialogue and collective bargaining, and -reinforcing respect for international labour standards.

Members of the Workers’ Group met today for their first session during the 356th @ILO Governing Body in Geneva. Over the next two weeks, Workers’ delegates will engage with Employers’ and Governments’ representatives on the future of the International Labour Organization, including key aspects of the reform process amid growing geopolitical tensions worldwide. Discussions will cover updates on the Organization’s financial situation and progress in implementing ongoing reform measures. This Governing Body session will also examine the ILO Development Cooperation Strategy for 2026–2029, the Human Resources Strategy for 2026–2029, as well as several country-specific developments, including follow-ups on the implementation of resolutions related to Belarus, Myanmar, Venezuela, Bangladesh, Nicaragua, Saudi Arabia and Chile.

Very productive meeting today between ACTRAV Director @oliverroepke and the delegation of Albania, headed by H.E. Mrs. @OltaManjani , Deputy Minister of Economy and Innovation, Mrs. Vasilika Hysi, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of @AlMissionGVA , and Mrs. Miranda Pistoli, First Secretary at the Albanian Mission in Geneva. Discussions focused on strengthening social dialogue and advancing the Decent Work Country Programme for Albania, with strong participation from trade unions. The Deputy Minister reiterated Albania’s commitment and called for enhanced @ilo support to reinforce social dialogue and to ensure meaningful engagement of workers’ organizations through the country’s social dialogue platforms. In the context of growing geopolitical tensions, Oliver Röpke emphasized the importance of renewing the ILO Decent Work Country Programme for Albania and reaffirmed ACTRAV’s strong support to trade unions in Albania in promoting social justice and decent work.

Highlights from the @ilo's first Innovation Day! ACTRAV showcased four initiatives helping trade unions navigate a world marked by crises, rapid tech change and attacks on multilateralism: 1. Workers’ Rights & Gender Equality – Africa New mentoring and peer‑learning tools are helping unions engage the ILO supervisory system, strengthen gender-responsive bargaining and improve regional coordination. 2. Digital Grievance Platform – Indonesia Union-led mobile apps now give garment workers safe reporting channels. 4,500+ workers registered and hundreds of cases already strengthening accountability. 3. Countering Disinformation – Ukraine In wartime, unions face AI-driven disinformation. ACTRAV’s programme supports stronger communication, advocacy and protection for workers. 4. Trade Unions in Transformation – Global Strategic foresight tools and the “Triple A” model—Anticipation, Agility, Adaptation—help unions respond to digitalization, climate change and instability. The day also featured insights on foresight and innovative learning methods from Rafael Peels who shared insights on strategic foresight in times of disruption, and Vera Dos Santos Costa from the @ITCILO, who presented an innovative approach to learning collective bargaining through storytelling and mobile technology. A great opportunity to exchange ideas, engage with young people and explore how innovation can strengthen the ILO’s impact. @oliverroepke

At the meeting of the Cooperation Network of the Confederación Sindical de Trabajadores y Trabajadoras de las Américas (CSA) in Mexico City, trade unions and partners discussed priorities for 2026–2029 amid democratic backsliding, funding constraints, and growing inequality. ACTRAV Director Oliver Röpke emphasized the need for stronger coordination to advance freedom of association, collective bargaining, formalization, social protection, and social dialogue. CSA Secretary General Rafael Freire underscored the crucial role of ACTRAV and the ILO in supporting trade unionism across the Americas and Africa: “We are ready to face this political moment.” @CSA_TUCA @oliverroepke @RafaelFreireCSA

Productive exchange at the @ilo with Norwegian parliamentarians, reaffirming Norway’s long-standing support. ACTRAV and ACT/EMP stressed the essential role of strong social partners, social dialogue, and collective bargaining in managing major transitions in the world of work.
