@simonw @calcom @dbreunig I don’t think that this is wrong - it’s just that this would require us to spend crazy budgets that we don’t have, and overall in our situation proves to be unfeasible. Closing source is the biggest method of risk reduction we can take right now to secure our customers

Open source is dead. That’s not a statement we ever thought we’d make. @calcom was built on open source. It shaped our product, our community, and our growth. But the world has changed faster than our principles could keep up. AI has fundamentally altered the security landscape. What once required time, expertise, and intent can now be automated at scale. Code is no longer just read. It is scanned, mapped, and exploited. Near zero cost. In that world, transparency becomes exposure. Especially at scale. After a lot of deliberation, we’ve made the decision to close the core @calcom codebase. This is not a rejection of what open source gave us. It’s a response to what risks AI is making possible. We’re still supporting builders, releasing the core code under a new MIT-licensed open source project called cal. diy for hobbyists and tinkerers, but our priority now is simple: Protecting our customers and community at all costs. This may not be the most popular call. But we believe many companies will come to the same conclusion. My full explanation below ↓

The future isn't one or a few mega-agents running the company (enterprise AGI). It's a swarm of atomic agents, with human operators, auditing, monitoring, testing, iterating (i.e. a lot of work).

I sometimes get questions about whether coding is what YC partners should be doing The answer is, are you kidding? Yes, because now is the most important time in history for you to have a player-coach with you. Far better than a front row courtside luxury season ticket holder!

I’ve got a new tech for learning fresh topics. I’ll explain my reasoning to Claude to see if I got anything wrong. If I can’t see why I’m wrong, I’ll get hints-based feedback. Way better than just seeing if I'm right/wrong + how to do it. LLM-tailored feedback is sick🔥

As much as I love MathAcademy, there are a few small things like this that.. are unideal. I think I got it wrong because I added a space in the second input. Whatever - I guess it’s something I could improve!

@lianda_edu as someone who is considering making this decision: transferring to a more expensive but better school, without a PhD in mind but just to work (dipping my toes into research because it fascinates me), what factors should I consider or is it a 100% do it decision?

I often find myself wondering: if I had been more far-sighted back then and taken out a big loan or a student loan to attend UCLA—or even UIUC—maybe when applying for PhD programs, I could have been a strong candidate for places like MIT Sloan or Wharton. Unfortunately, I could only make the best decision possible under incomplete information at that time. Even though that choice now looks quite poor in hindsight, and it has completely prevented me from leveraging my strengths, it’s as if I’ve been saddled with a permanent debuff.

This is a glosso test! If your'e not on glosso, comment for an invite link (which gives you invites to invite others). I only ask in exchange you post your results, and share invite links with your own friends so I don't have to. <3

I think i invented the best personality test. Hear me out: 1. Take the word "gargoyle". If you HAD to class them, would gargoyles be more kinky or vanilla? What about more chad or frumpy? Are they more chiller or builder? I had people vote a series of 6 binary questions for every word I could think of, and then ended up with a huge pile of correlated words. Like: If you look at the KINKY, CHAD, CHILL category, you get a bunch of the words that got voted into that same concept. So - what about *you*? Vote *yourself* through the gates, and you'll find yourself landed in a pile of all the other words that got voted the same as you! That's how I got 'the operator'.
