@tavkniesnythews Ultimately you don’t want to turn it into what the oilers are doing. Matthews doesn’t want an average team, and him saying that means he will be 100% healthy next year.
If a team has a generational talent like McDavid/Matthews you go all-in. There’s no middle.
Before Matthews left in the Summer, he mentioned the Bruins one-off season, he mentioned Tampa Bays one-off season before they finally won. Then said he wants to be part of the solution in Toronto but he can’t predict the future. I bet he wants to know what the Leafs plan to do this off season to stay competitive. If he believes in their plan, he stays. Gavin McKenna changes everything for the Leafs. Stick to the facts. Not what the media is telling you.
I decided to cook up a Matthews for Michkov and TOR’s 2027 1st hypothetical.
Very interested to hear what you guys think about it, because it makes sense in my mind!!!!
@tavkniesnythews@nylanderthews I think everyone walks except Nylander.
He’s the only one that expressively loves being a leaf, and Toronto.
If Matthews wants to leave. Let him. Not begging. 9 straight playoff seasons, and you wanna walk when you miss one lmao
I hope they’re just rumours
@nylanderthews It’s crazy that Matthews and Nylander might be the only guys left from the past era. If both those guys stay, and we win with them down the line, they deserve statues.
Dreger on First Up says Chayka, Sundin, and Berube are expected to meet face to face tomorrow
Dreger also says he's talked to some close with Rielly and every player gets to that place where things aren't working, maybe a fresh start is needed, and that's where Rielly's at now
We just got confirmation the NHL Draft is officially RIGGED.
Toronto Maple Leafs get to draft McKenna due to good ole Gary Bettman’s collusion
Vancouver got absolutely fleeced.
If there’s one Pro Sports Draft that is absolutely rigged, it’s the NHL 100%.
Quite interesting that Auston Matthews basically says he's leaving Toronto and suddenly Toronto secures the first overall pick. Quite interesting indeed.
@SWlMMYs@NickAube78373@bigheadhcky I’m with you, Tavares is still nasty.
He’ll be fine playing 3C, PP1, and filling in top 6 when needed.
Give me a feisty to play against second line center, who can put up points
I also want a red Lamborghini
@imYashkarn@NickAube78373@bigheadhcky That just makes no sense, it’s nearly mathematically impossible for a 3c to hit 60 points for one. For two you’re not getting a better center than Tavares. There’s far more pressing needs than center which the leafs are actually well above average in the NHL in
@SWlMMYs@NickAube78373@bigheadhcky Who cares? Throw Tavares on 3C, let him get easier minutes, feast and hit 60+ points.
Bring in a 2C that can also bang 60+ points.
@NickAube78373@bigheadhcky Yeah you’re not wrong, Tavares is an amazing player. But if we want to compete for a cup, Tavares will be even better in a 3C role.
Need a young 2C, with a deep team
@imYashkarn@bigheadhcky I think I would draw a distinction here - Tavares at 2C with this lineup is likely enough to make the playoffs, but not enough to contend. Need a matchup/shutdown capable center to offset
@bigheadhcky - Tavares isn’t LeBron James, need him as your 3rd line center. You’re not going deep with him as your 2nd line center. (I love Tavares btw)
- Agreed. Add another puck mover as well. Rielly at top 2 hasn’t worked for 14 years
@imYashkarn • Matthews-Tavares is 100% playoff calibre center depth, be serious
• d core is not great but they can target a guy like Raddysh now to QB PP1
Personally, I found it distasteful that John Chayka was shamed and humiliated during the #Leafs news conference on Monday. And, I’m not referring to Steve Simmons or anyone in particular. The entire tone was over the top. Chayka has some skeletons, but so do we all. He’s not a convicted felon, as he was treated. More here… bit.ly/4essqQe#LeafsForever#TorontoSun
@Banx_Leaf They want to run Matthews out of town. It’s the only way @reporterchris and @TheAthletic stay relevant, when leafs are bad.
What else would they write about? He used a quote Matthews said at the end of the season to take advantage of the chaos going on right now.
Matthews makes the playoffs 9 times in 10 years and the 1st year they take a step back we’ve got CJ saying he’s not sure he’s coming back.
What are we actually doing here
