I think the tech emerging so that you can flaunt publicly, display better privately, and on the metaverse is going to be the game changer with adoption and growth. Imagine you can sit at a Miami Heat game with AR and see the collectibles of the people around you. You realize this person your competitive with from work and can see across the court has a better collectible than you. You go buy a better one than them on the spot in the middle of the game without leaving your seat. I think that's the status economy that we'll get to in the next 10 years, and that's going to be way, way, bigger than the typical sports collector's space... And yea, the stuff we're talking about right now feels like peanuts in comparison to that.

@derekcsnook Totally agree, they are small and expensive. Hopefully the tech will progress rapidly and costs for private displays come down. I'd want some larger displays in my house for my collectibles.

@imallin007 I haven’t so I can’t speak for it. From what little I remember they were small and expensive. I think that public flexing will be way more important, but seems like the tech for private display should get much better, too.

Lots of people asking what I think will happen with Candy Island 👇 No official update since Sept 29 — the last note said engineering fixes would take “about a week.” It’s been six. 😅 So here’s the reality as I see it (not financial advice): 1️⃣ Worst case — we lose everything. Possible until we get self-custody. That's why a lot of stuff has been sooooooo cheap, the risk is priced in (maybe overpriced in in some cases). 2️⃣ Base case — Candy gives us self-custody (cost ≈$30K). Community could then spin up a secondary marketplace, create real price discovery, and actually unlock the beast. 3️⃣ Best case — MLB’s IP gets picked up by someone like @PaniniAmerica or @dapperlabs, merging sports with sports and bringing real liquidity + cross-sport trading + price discovery for everyone. @veve_official could happen, but based on marketplace principles I think sports should stay with sports, though I think the comics should go there and would do great there. For MLB I think it would just be about the same as it currently is at Candy, and I'm unclear on Veve's self custody plan while Panini/Dapper either have it or have a plan to get to it. Either way, self-custody is the bare minimum. It protects collectors, preserves trust, avoids legal costs, future missed revenue from die hard collectors, and reputational damage to the board, their investors, and MLB that would probably be many millions more than the $30k ChatGPT says it would cost to give self custody. Either way, options 2 and 3 sets up the next wave of digital growth 🚀🚀🚀 What are your thoughts?
