This shift is concentrated among early-career academics. As the old guard retires, these younger woke radicals will replace them and shape hiring decisions for decades to come. If you think academia’s ideological skew was bad before and even worse today, brace yourself. It’s going to get considerably worse over the next decade and beyond. We need to reform hiring procedures in scientific and medical institutions that receive public funding now. Not by imposing ideological quotas (no DEI for conservatives), but by adopting genuinely blind processes that prevent ideological discrimination in hiring.

Everyone asking "how come a 90k/yr Ivy League school doesn't have security cams" doesn't realize how inefficient/incompetent the Brown University admin is. Brown is run by nearly 4000 administrators (not professors!) who might work in ResLife yet have a PhD in obscure fields (because many of these folks are failed academics who still want to work in academia). The overcredentialed admins don't actually have any practical skills to do their jobs — so just invent a bunch of busywork for themselves and others, demand six figures, and out of an inflated sense of importance, hire a bunch of assistants to do busywork for them. This results in a lot of overhead — salaries are the biggest expense category at Brown — and not so much money left for facilities (no security cameras), dorms (lots of flooding and lead paint), or food (poorly regarded). But at the end of the day, it usually doesn't matter! Unlike other schools, Brown doesn't need safe facilities, nice dorms, or tasty food to attract students because everybody goes to Brown for the Ivy League brand.

@EuroDale @JimLaneRational The process was poisoned long before DEI. In fact, DEI is a mask now for wanting to return to "before DEI" when "before DEI" was also extremely corrupt in academia. That's why DEI took off so easily; academia was already poisoned w/ pure egoistic self-interest.

No one's going to make Harvard or whatever hire white guys again. Nor should we beg—that's not our style. Just let the DEI hires have it. While they run it into the ground (already are), we'll build the next elite thing: pure merit, zero bullshit. It's what we do. We always have. There’s definitely a difference in having a boy vs having a girl. The boy is full of energy and fearless. I am teaching him to be tough and will run through walls WITH him. My sweet girl on the other hand will surely be different. I can already tell the difference in temperament. She loves being held. Not sure what I did with all my time before babies, but it’s awesome!
