@DuncanHegan1 Is the supposed (?) uptick in Church attendance mirrored in other social infrastructure settings too?

Decline in Church attendance exactly mirrors the decline of participation in all other forms of social organisation. Under discussed how it is not unique but part of a wider social trend toward fragmentation. The church should see herself as an antidote to this.

I’m reading Bowling Alone and I’m laughing at the fact that every single one of the things Putnam lists a frequent point of “informal connection” is going (or has already gone) extinct drinks after work coffee with regulars at the diner poker night gossip with neighbors etc

He jokes, but working out "acceptable relationships with paedophiles" is a decent description of much of this government's approach to asylum hotels, grooming gangs, and trans issues.
James Heale@JAHeale

Tory source gets in touch… “Given that PM’s argument is that it was ok for Mandelson to be friends with a paedophile but the "scale and extent" crossed a line, will the Cabinet Office be publishing guidance on acceptable relationships with paedophiles. Coffee ok but not dinner?”

Hardly needs saying that the hamfisted critiques of Danny Kruger’s thought in both The TImes and The Guardian this week unwittingly underline that it is his ideas and influence - not Finkelstein’s or Malik’s - that are in the ascendant.
Danny Kruger@danny__kruger

Nice try with the straw man. I've never written about 'obedience' and I often say community depends on freedom. Meanwhile the Left can hardly bring themselves to utter the words 'family, neighbourhood, nation' - the forms of community that really matter observer.co.uk/news/columnist…

De Lubac notes that although man can "organize the world without God" nonetheless "without God, he can ultimately only organize it against man. Exclusive humanism is inhuman humanism."

Characteristic and depressing that Labour can’t bring themselves to recognise the pattern of Islamist persecution of Christians around the world - only condemn ‘religious intolerance from whichever community’. This pattern needs naming and debating properly.

‘[Editing The Salisbury Review] cost me many thousand hours of unpaid labour, a hideous character assassination in Private Eye, three lawsuits, two interrogations, one expulsion, the loss of a university career in Britain, unendingly contemptuous reviews, Tory suspicion, and the hatred of decent liberals everywhere. And it was worth it.’ - Sir Roger Scruton

If you wished to discredit the entire concept of breakfast clubs then this is exactly the sort of video you would put out, the better to enrage the taxpayers who actually pay for it all.
Department for Education@educationgovuk

What would you do with an extra 30 minutes in your day? 🤔 Free breakfast clubs are transforming mornings for 500,000 children - that's 95 precious hours back each year while children get a nutritious start to their day. Part of our Plan for Change ✨

A crazy man on the tube at rush hour carrying a saw. No, he wasn’t a tradesman. I hope you’re enjoying that Knighthood, @MayorofLondon , whilst the rest of us are trying to live with your failures.

For those who don't know, 'Only Connect' is a charity that @danny__kruger and his wife Emma set up and over many years it has worked at helping hardened criminals reintegrate into society after prison. And they weren't remote founders who let others do the face-to-face mentoring and care. Danny left a good job at The Telegraph to try and do some good at the coalface. You owe Danny an apology, Alastair and do your homework next time.

We have lost the cultural mechanisms that could ever have made ‘integration’ happen. Unhappy strangers are being gathered up by dark forces in our streets. My piece in October’s issue of The Critic thecritic.co.uk/how-can-we-mak…
