In relationships, traditionally the man is expected to take a leading role, he asks her out, he takes her on dates, he proposes to her, etc. Or at least that is the narrative I've primarily been exposed to

Not to be weird, but I don't understand most of the married people I know. Many sleep in different beds, have separate living room chairs, etc. I don't get it. I feel like if I was married I would go to great lengths to spend as much time as possible cuddling and being cuddled.

I have become a dog person or some other distributed intellect. I really enjoy walking my little schnauzer and golden retriever around the neighbhorhood, as if we are tentacles of each other undulating along the cracked sidewalks. They probing the earth for smells, me probing the spirit world for ideas, working together to interface with the object reality. With all my kids and my dogs and my wife and my friends, I am becoming a colony organism, like a jellyfish, pulsing through the warm shoals of Life filtering out the bits and pieces. There is no existence for me without these other beings. If I were to be severed off, I would flop around on the ground foaming at the mouth, disconnected from the life source that powers me, the color draining from my body. We cannot really be said to exist except in our relationship to others, to the world. Even our private thoughts depend on language and concepts developed by others. Our consciousness was supported and encouraged by others. Our physical bodies were created and grown by others.

@callanable @imoimo______ My mother is a tall hyperactive blonde and all the girls I date are pensive short brunettes, which I guess is equally Freudian but with the polarity flipped.
