Continuing the brainstorming speeches of #Ransamwaad Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of Naval Staf, addressed the forum on "Maritime Forces Visualisation of #MDO". The Chief of Naval Staff structured the talk in two parts. First, how the maritime battlespace has changed into a dense, transparent, deeply interconnected grid shaped by speed, scale and simultaneity and second, how the Indian Navy is adapting to this through Multi-Domain Operations. The multi-domain character of maritime operations is not new to the Indian Navy and speed is no longer merely an enabler of warfare but a distinct capability. The future fleet will not be defined by platforms alone, but by the effects it can generate in an integrated manner. Transit activity continues at historically suppressed levels, with movements limited and irregular, while a proportion of traffic remains unreported or operating under AIS constraints, complicating #MDA. An observable shift in routing behaviour has emerged, with vessels transiting via a controlled corridor near Larak Island, suggesting the possibility of facilitated passage through diplomatic coordination, while remaining outside established traffic lanes. Concurrently, AIS data indicates vessels embedding country-linked identifiers in destination fields, assessed as a deliberate measure to mitigate perceived threat exposure during transit. Operational patterns further confirm a multi-layered threat environment, combining direct attacks, UAV/USV activity and residual risks from intercepted aerial threats, where falling debris continues to pose a credible hazard to vessels and crew, even without direct engagement. Persistent GPS interference and AIS manipulation across key transit corridors are further degrading navigational reliability and obscuring the maritime situational awareness. The cumulative impact continues to strain energy flows, disrupt supply chains and sustain elevated war risk premiums.
