thinking about how easy it would have been to feel uncomplicated joy at the miracle of humans going to the moon if half of the world wasn't currently actively being butchered and amputated in part by the people who sent them there

This is my city, Beit Hanoun. It was once known as the “Green City” for its abundance of olive and orange trees. It produced and exported oranges and olives to the entire world. Israel has bulldozed the city, leaving not a single tree behind. Trees as old as history itself, that had lived for hundreds of years, were spared nothing by this Zionist terror.

Cyril Ramaphosa has secured South Africa a pass through the Strait of Hormuz, a move that echoes Nelson Mandela’s doctrine that “your enemies are not our enemies,” affirming an independent foreign policy rooted in national interest.

Remember when the podcasters north of Glenhove and established business were chastising Ramaphosa and South Africa for not being "strategic" with Trump? They had ideas on how to bargain with Trump, and their tone was very condescending - it had a "the hapless darkies don't know how to do diplomacy." What do they say to their raging lunatic now? Where is the space for rational dialogue here. All of Europe is looking inward and Eastward for a more rational, inclusive, and less combative geopolitical space. The president of the United States is not an adult. He needs adult supervision.

Donald Trump is clearly threatening to use nuclear weapons against Iran. He needs to be removed as President to prevent a catastrophe that our species will never recover from.

I have not seen a single mainstream media outlet give this the attention it deserves. Israel blew up an entire Lebanese town, an ancient place. It should be headline news. There’s footage of it happening. Imagine this was your town, and you saw every building blown up by a terrorist army to prevent you from ever returning. You would at the very least expect wall to wall coverage. Instead it passes without a word. It’s not the only town Israel has blown up. And sadly it probably won’t be the last.

Israel bombed the Rafie Nia Synagogue in Tehran. Yes, you read that right. Israel bombed a synagogue. In Iran. Most Americans probably didn't know that there are ~100 synagogues in Iran, 30 of which are in Tehran.

(🧵1/11) For the past year and a half, I've been investigating OpenAI and Sam Altman for @NewYorker. With my coauthor @andrewmarantz, I reviewed never-before-disclosed internal memos, obtained 200+ pages of documents related to a close colleague, including extensive private notes, and interviewed more than 100 people. OpenAI was founded on the premise that A.I. could be the most dangerous invention in human history—and that its C.E.O. would need to be a person of uncommon integrity. We lay out the most detailed account yet of why Altman was ousted out by board members and executives who came to believe he lacked that integrity, and ask: were they right to allege that he couldn't be trusted? A thread on some of of our findings:

Make no mistake: destroying world-class universities, like the US just did with Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, isn't just an attack on Iran but it's literally an attack on all of us, on all of humanity. It's not Iran that "won" when Maryam Mirzakhani made her discoveries that won her a Fields Medal: it's all of mathematics, and everything mathematics is used for. Human progress won, technology won, we all won. It's the same type of stuff the Mongols did during the sack of Baghdad and their destruction of the House of Wisdom: we ALL lost something irreplaceable back then, entire fields of human knowledge set back. That's what bombing a university does. It doesn't just destroy buildings. It destroys us, all of us.
