LAGOS ENGAGES ADDITIONAL CONSULTANTS TO BOOST REVENUE ON LAND USE CHARGE
… Defaulters To Face Revenue Court As LASG Moves To Enforce Compliance
In a renewed effort to strengthen its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) base and improve Property Tax compliance, the Lagos State Government has engaged five additional Land Use Charge (LUC) Consultants. This strategic move increased the number of LUC consultants from five to 10.
The Honourable Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Abayomi Oluyomi, speaking during an engagement session with the Chief Executive Officers (CEO) of existing and new LUC Consultants in Alausa recently, disclosed that the state is adopting a different approach to drive revenue growth.
He affirmed that with more hands on deck, the state aims to expand property enumeration, identify defaulters more effectively, and ultimately increase revenue collection for infrastructure development.
Oluyomi further explained that despite having nearly three million properties across Lagos, only 900,000 properties have been identified and captured in the State Government’s database. He also cited a high rate of default among property owners and the overwhelming span of control for existing consultants as key challenges prompting the expansion of the consultant network.
The Honourable Commissioner revealed that the new consultants have been given six-month contracts to demonstrate their capability. Their performance will be evaluated based on clearly defined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), after which extensions may be considered. The consultants, who were carefully selected through a rigorous screening process, are expected to commence field operations immediately.
To support transparency and accountability, the Commissioner also stressed the importance of a feedback mechanism, encouraging consultants to regularly report field challenges so that the government can respond effectively.
He therefore, charged property owners to pay their Land Use Charge bills promptly, warning that defaulters will be charged to the Land Use Charge Court in accordance with the provisions of the Law. “Many of these properties are generating income. It should not be difficult for them to pay the token required by the government to develop infrastructure that benefits everyone. The law is clear - every property, built or unbuilt, is subject to LUC,” he added.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Alao Tajudeen Mahmud reiterated the Commissioner’s call to action, urging all consultants to be “up and doing.” He highlighted that the ultimate goal is to increase both the enumeration coverage and the revenue generation of the state government.
He emphasised that the Land Use Charge is a property tax, not a personal tax, and called on property owners to view their payments as essential contributions to the growth and sustainability of the state.“An inclusive and digitally-enabled property tax regime will position Lagos for long-term fiscal sustainability. It is a strategic tool in our journey to build a smarter, resilient and more prosperous city”, Mahmud noted.

LAGOS REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO GRASSROOTS AGRICULTURE AT STRATEGIC STAKEHOLDERS MEETING
In a renewed effort to reposition agriculture as a developmental priority at the grassroots level, the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development held an interactive meeting on Tuesday with Heads of Departments (HODs) of Agriculture and Social Services of the 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas (LGs/LCDAs) across the State.
The meeting, which took place at the T-Block Conference Room in Alausa, Ikeja, centered on the theme: “Achieving Holistic Growth Through Agricultural Development at the Third Tier of Government.”, emphasising the need to prioritise the agricultural sector which has been long under-prioritised in comparison to the social sector, leading to food insufficiency, malnutrition and growing vulnerability in rural communities.
While delivering his keynote address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekini Agbaje underscored the importance of taking agriculture seriously at all levels of government. He described agriculture as a critical sector that not only drives economic growth but also enhances food security and employment opportunities. Agricultural development is a vital aspect of every country’s growth, "We cannot afford to treat it as secondary,” he stated.
Similarly, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, in her welcome address proposed the introduction of a dedicated platform for regular dialogue between the Ministry and rural development offices. She noted that such a forum would enable stakeholders to align strategies, share resources, and sensitise communities on the importance of agriculture to sustainable development.
Attendees, during the deliberation, proposed several practical solutions, which include: increased capacity building for agricultural personnel, more interactive sessions between stakeholders, and better utilisation of existing Agricultural Demonstration Centres such as the Greenhouse in Badagry.
They also called for intensified advocacy and sensitisation campaigns, as well as stronger collaboration with Community Development Associations (CDAs), which they described as vital to grassroots agricultural advancement.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all participants to work collaboratively in advancing agriculture at the local level and ensuring that it receives the attention, funding, and strategic direction it deserves in Lagos State.

International Self-Care Day
Do you feel overwhelmed or just trying to hold it all together? Today, the world has decided to celebrate you. Yes! It's International Self-care Day today .
Self-care isn’t always bubble baths, visits to the spa and yoga . Sometimes it is dragging yourself out of bed when it’s hard. Sometimes it’s staying in bed because that’s what your body needs. It’s saying no when you
are exhausted . It’s asking for help, even when it’s uncomfortable. It’s choosing what’s right for you even if others don’t get it.( They don't have to you know )
Self-care can be messy, quiet or Imperfect and yet still incredibly important.
So today, maybe check in with yourself, breathe, drink some water. Send a text to that friend log off early if you can. Do something small that feels kind to you.
You don’t have to do it all, remember you matter too.

Throwback Lagos
Lagos, a city with a rich musical legacy, witnessed a historic moment on May 9, 2025, when Joshua Olusanya, aka "Bossboss," played the trumpet for 25 hours, 30 minutes, and 36 seconds at Terra Kulture. This 'First Ever' feat echoes the city's iconic Afrobeat era, led by legends like Fela Anikulapo Kuti, and cements Lagos's reputation as a hub for musical innovation and talent. Bossboss's record-breaking attempt is a shining badge of honour for the city's enduring musical heritage and its ability to inspire new generations of artists.
