Taper is now performing 10x better than PyTorch for a simple CNN MNIST dataset training. It supports conv2d and maxpool now. M4 CPU only results - Taper(written in rust) - 96% accuracy in 660 seconds, 50 epochs. 13 second per epoch. ~4500 samples per epoch. PyTorch - ~500 samples/sec, 120 sec per epoch. What’s really interesting to me here is the annotated talk blog format. It takes 5 minutes to read (vs 1 hour to watch) and has almost no loss of info. I feel like this format is underrated and makes me wonder if this will change what should be live vs written or at the very least push live talks in a different direction? What does everyone think?
