Totally agree - VR is an imagination and collaboration multiplier. Making decisions based on skillful spatial simulations will be the norm as our challenges grow, and we rise to meet those challenges. The masses will be entertained, but makers and doers will achieve great things
Andreea Ion Cojocaru@andreeavr

Many feel that VR is a form of escapism when what's demanded of us is to be present & fight for nature. To quote bell hooks, "what we cannot imagine cannot come into being". VR + a creative tool is your imagination on steroids so you can test scenarios & share them with others.

REK has been secretly building the world’s first humanoid fighting simulator. Opening today for beta on Steam. Using the same AI and physics as a real robots. This will allow millions of people to train to become robot pilots. A video game literally becoming reality.

People talk about the "hedonic treadmill," where we quickly adapt to having new luxuries like a huge TV or an iPhone and it becomes the new baseline. I wonder if I'm already feeling the "ASI treadmill" now. Although I'm pleased to see my Fable agents running around my repos and achieving 30x performance gains (on graph "square clustering" in my FrankenNetworkX project), I'm no longer shocked by it. I'm sort of like, "Well, yeah, don't even talk to me if you didn't manage to at least triple the performance." I know what they're capable of now and expect it and won't accept less. But there is nothing normal about any of this. It's all so freaking implausible from the perspective of the most informed worldviews of 15 years ago, held by basically everyone other than Ray Kurzweil and a handful of others.

@doodlestein Yeah, I've been exploring the Napoleon graphic as a means for understanding different battles and retreats. It's right on the edge of possible, and will need to be verified for quant accuracy - but super compelling for the new models to have such capable information graph density

I’m reading a book now about the Pacific Theater of WW2 focused on the Navy (Pacific Crucible, great book so far) and it’s fun to see these little history infographics made with ChatGPT. You can do these multi-part ones and it does a fantastic job of preserving the look and feel.

Earthshine. Artemis II astronaut Christina Koch captured this video of Earth outside the windows of the Orion spacecraft during the second flight day of the mission. Orion was roughly 33,800 miles (54,500 km) away from Earth when @Astro_Christina took this video.

Today was my last day at Google DeepMind. I’m resigning to focus on personal health issues—and my daughter, the light of my life. It’s truly been a honor to work with such world-class talent at GDM. Thanks @OfficialLoganK for the opportunity, and best wishes to the whole team!

@jack Wow, this bring back memories! Legendary! So many discussions around data structures and formats and this seemed like such an elegant solution, with an emphasis on human, readable abstraction... Converging in a post-singularity world.

@micahstubbs I was just rereading Minsky 1960 steps towards artificial intelligence last night, and the section on the problem of search, hill climbing and relative improvements continue to be so prescient.

Sufficiently advanced agent prompting is essentially machine learning: set up an optimization goal as well as some constraints on the search space (spec and its tests), then an optimization process (coding agents) iterates until the goal is reached.

@ID_AA_Carmack Flywheel energy density is wild. In practice could be amazing for a boost - which feels like a Tron light cycle spec, maybe dual counter rotors to offset gyroscope effect!

High end composite flywheel rotors can achieve nearly a kWh/kg of rotational storage when magnetically levitated in a vacuum chamber. Consider mounting a flywheel in the middle of a wheel, such that magnetically decelerating the flywheel accelerates the wheel. Even if the flywheel was only 1% of the system mass, that is 0.01 kWh/kg, enough energy to accelerate the entire system to 600 mph. Lots of practical system engineering challenges, and drag would consume more energy, but It would be amusing to outrun a top fuel dragster with a wind up toy.

The cool thing about posting on here is you immediately see what resonates and what doesn't and if you want you can let that pull you to where the collective hive mind is, which is kinda like an underground reality, I guess what cities like Berlin used to be decades ago but now that's transplanted to an online space and in that space you can discover stuff that normies will be talking about and doing in like 3 to 7 years
