Please do some basic research; it wasn't a children's game. Here's the now-rugged Google Play link: play.google.com/store/apps/det…. It had over 500,000 downloads before it disappeared (along with the money collectors spent on digital cards). The last reviews are a peek into the future of their products.

When Vinyls drops a factual hammer like this, it tells you everything. Leaving out the $2,500 cases and $250 boxes that sold out instantly, just to focus on the leftover $5 packs, is a massive omission. It is an obviously forced comparison. Weaponizing a peak World Cup drop while completely ignoring the high-end demand and the actual data of Top Shot's success shows a clear intent to push a negative narrative.

Normally I wouldnt respond to a post like this but please do your research before making a claim. It hurts everyone when you leave out critical information. NBA Finals cases were $2,500 each and sold out and are low ask of $3,978 on secondary. Boxes were $250 and sold out and are $300 on secondary. We also sold out of $25 standard packs. The chance hits are the FOURTH wave of packs for this drop. We can all coexist in this space but let's not get things wrong that hurt collectors and businesses. I'm very happy for panini and for collectors that are benefitting from these world cup drops. We should be celebrating not knocking each other down.

Yes, that's my point: there's no mention of blockchains or NFTs at all. In the context of ownership, they talk about missing tangible items, such as CDs or cards. Digital ownership has let them down, so they are regressing. I think we're both correct; we're just seeing things from different perspectives. To me, it's a solved problem, but the solution isn't well-known, so it feels like an unsolved problem.

@intangible_eth I don't believe they're talking about ownership the way someone who's spent a lot of time talking about and learning about blockchains is talking about ownership. I think they're talking about the overall trend of people switching back to more analog devices and physical objects

This Reddit thread shows a fascinating disconnect. The mainstream public is actively feeling the loss of true digital ownership. NFTs provide the exact property rights they are asking for, but early scams poisoned the term. They want the technology, they just hate the acronym.

@EdventureTime Exactly, digital has failed them, so they revert to what previously worked with physical. NFTs on a decentralized blockchain solve for this, it's genuinely one of the few great use cases of the technology.

Volatility is part of the territory, but @NBATopShot remains sticky because its core community collects for basketball history, not exclusively for a price feed. Kudos to everyone who stuck around. Prices fluctuate, but the value proposition never changed: Love of the Game.

Luke is spot on. People don't care about decentralization until they suddenly have to. It's digital property insurance. Good tech is invisible, but true ownership means building an architecture where revocation is impossible. You don't build the foundation after the fact.

I'll be honest, I'm surprised to see you say this as a crypto native guy. Or at least that you would ignore key technical differentiators between the two: 1. Top Shot Moments can be fully self-custody 2. Top Shot has true permanence and long term authenticity 3. Panini is built on a private blockchain 4. Video highlights vs still images 5. Cross-Network compatibility means you can put your Top Shot Moments into your Metamask or Rabby wallet. Of course, I strongly feel it's good for the space overall that Panini is having a moment of heightened activity, but fans shouldn't settle for digital collectibles being simply replicating what already exists in physical and putting it onchain on a private network. Digital should push the expectation of what's possible in this space, because so much more is possible.
